New orchestral library... KH or VSL?

Hi all,

Wanted some input from fellow forumites, it looks like a # of you have cashed in on the Kirk Hunter group buy, which looks like a sweet deal indeed!
Concert Strings II, Concert Brass II and Diamond orchestra for ~ $450 ish,

VSL SE - goes for close to the same,

I currently have Komplete 7, GPO 4, IK's Miroslav Philhamonik (full version) and have been looking to get a superior orchestral library,

I've been listening to demos on the company websites and for the most part, I'm finding the VSL demos more impressive... and I like all the info that VSL has on their website regarding their products but the Kirk Hunter website is pretty limited and just lists the size of the libraries on the HDD and the instruments included.

I thought the dynamics in some of the VSL demos were superb! I think the KH demos could be better, I liked the Concert Brass 2 video demos.. anyways,

Does anyone here have any experience with either of these libraries or both preferably that could contrast them? Thanks!

@windsurfer25x You should consider asking this question at KVR in the GB forum ( http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=331086&start=2190 ). There are a bunch of GB members who also own VSL, LSS, Albion, EWQL libraries, etc. who I bet would be happy to give their feedback and (ftr, I'm helping Kirk Hunter with the GB). We have a number of pros who regularly post in the thread (funny, but we've had a bunch of A-list movie and television composers and some rock musicians, but they never post on KVR, they either email or call Kirk or have their tech folks do it). One GB thread regular who owns and has posted some comparison with some competitor libraries is mchannemann. He's a pro composer of game music, so he's regularly mixing and matching orchestral libraries.

There are also product demos of some of the Kirk Hunter Studios libraries you can download for yourself (I always find people happily surprised by the sound of the libraries as compared to the mixes of the demos, which I find aren't mixed very bright, like a lot of other string library demos are mixed). This will give you a first hand taste of the sound of the samples as opposed to listening to demos that might use various effects in the mix and master and may be eq'ed in a way not to your liking.

KHS libraries are all over the Ugly Betty and Medium (the main title uses KHS libraries) scores/cues as well as a lot of American tv scores -- Jeff Beal is Kirk Hunter Studios endorser, as is Jeff Bova who has used KHS libraries with a number of contemporary pop artists as well as for the American tv show, American Idol (getting permission to use this stuff is the challenge, additionally, the reality is that pros constantly combine multiple devs libraries and live strings); I've been trying to get this stuff worked out, but it's unlikely to happen before the GB is over). I recently posted a Christmas song Kirk is doing the producing and arranging on that features Diamond, Concert Strings and Concert Brass: http://www.kirkhunterstud...erything_Christmas.mp3
