Hi Laney, I have K4 and wondered how much different K5 is. Can you please explain more on the "WOW" factor?

If you already have K4, you probably won't get a whole lot out of K5. It's the same bundled library, and the sampler itself has seen only minor improvements. NI, however, has its ways of getting you to upgrade. Taking a page from Microsoft's planned-obsolescence playbook, they are making all of their add-on libraries incompatible with K4, even existing products that were originally made explicitly for K4. When most third-party vendors eventually follow suit, it's just a matter of time before you come across some must-have library that requires K5 to run.

Hi Bit I've already accidentally done this - Service Centre showed an upgrade for one of the Scarbee libraries, so I downloaded and installed (I'm on Kontakt 4) - when I went to use it it told me I had an old version of Kontakt and I could no longer use the library - I had to unistall, reinstall from the original disc and reauthorise! You really do have to love NI's caring attitude towards it customers - "goodnes zay ar zo lucky to be able to buy and use our products, ya!!!!" Nigel

I guess Kontakt 5 are a major big update if you don't have Kontakt 4 already... Great that you like it LANEY!

bitflipper NI, however, has its ways of getting you to upgrade. they also have ways for you to stop buying their products as well, or dis-wade you.. discontinuing kore at very short notice and not giving it's customers long enough to buy libs for it to champion maschine is the obvious one.. kore uses (who have kontroller) I'm guessing will think twice about buying NI products. the new komplete update is mainly sound libs.. no biggy they just evenutally bundle em in as content like they have with other things.

LANEY I just got my Kontakt yesterday and spent most of the night playing with it. All I can say is WOW! I am going to start recording using it today, it has inspired me. Thank You NI! Now you have the full Kontakt, start looking around for free and low cost libraries, there are a lot out there. For starters check out the free packs at Hollow Sun , the "Big Mono' drum kit from Analogue Drums and the RMI Rocksichord at Soniccouture and the free stuff at Bolder Sounds for unusual acoustic stuff. The strength of Kontakt is the third party content that is available as much as the NI stuff.

http://www.store.precisionsound.net/ has some interesting and useful stuff as well... accordians, percussion, keyboards, flutes, whistles, etc. The Dusty Electric is a good, cheap Rhodes w/ character, if you're in the market for one of those. The Stingers I & II are good too, if you need som out-of-the-box FX. The Carina and Weltmeister are recommended, as is the Pianica 32A. They frequently have sales, so get on their mailing list... Also http://www.lyricaldistortion.com/store/ for good and cheap guitars and basses.

Also be sure to grab one or all of the $5 downloads from Indiginus. The Nashville Electric Guitar is my favorite of the collection.

...the "Big Mono' drum kit from Analogue Drums +1 This is a surprisingly good drum kit for $0.00. Don't be put off by the "mono" aspect. It took me about 2 minutes to turn it into a stereo kit, panned just the way I like 'em.
