Questions about Music Creator 6
I'm thinking about buying Music Creator 6 and had a few questions about things it can or cannot do. 1. If I have a MIDI file of a rather long drum track, can I somehow insert that into the program and have it play all the drums I've already written? 2. Can I put tempo and time signature changes into recordings? Thanks in advance!

MC6 will allow you to import the MIDI file and you can use SI Drums for output (that's a softsynth) yes, you can change tempo and time signature. but you cannot change AUDIO by changing the tempo and time signature. only the MIDI and it's output.

Actually maybe I should have made that second question a little clearer, can I have a song with time signature and tempo changes in it? Such as 4/4 at 84 bpm and then 7/8 at 102 bpm?

Yes. Using the PROJECT>INSERT METER/KEY CHANGE you can change those things at any measure in the project multiple times. As Beagle said, those commands only change the MIDI. If there is audio, that will have to be recorded again if you change the meter/key after recording the audio. Tempo can also be changed in a similar manner. Theoretically..... you can also change the audio as well..... however, it is generally best to plan to record it again or...better yet, wait until the midi editing and time/tempo changes are completed and you are satisfied with them....then and only then record the keeper tracks for audio. Hope that helps.... MC6 is a cool program.

Will MC6 allow me to import MIDI files of piano or strings that can be played by SI instruments, or would I need to purchase the Studio Instruments package for this?

MC 6 comes with SI Drums only. But it does have the TTS-1 soft synth which has hundreds of patches (instrument sounds).

While Greg is correct, MC6 also comes with the Cakewalk Sound Center (CSC) http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/MusicCreator/about.aspx/Virtual-instruments-in-Music-Creator For Me... this is the synth I use most often in MC and X1. The Sound Center has a whole lot of instruments built in... or should I say included with it to get you started. It sounds good (sampled instruments), it's easy to use, and there are quite a few low cost expansion packs available. I've added the Steinway pianos and the World instruments to the original line up. For the price.... CSC packs are a good value for the quality. If I was stuck on a desert island, and could only have one synth.... it would be CSC. It will do so much, and do it well. With any of them loaded, YES, you can use any midi track, either created by you with a mouse, played in with a midi keyboard, or imported from another source, to play back the instruments in CSC. As Greg mentioned you also get TTS. TTS has a reasonably good range of instruments and other sounds that come in handy. In TTS I like the piano and the drums. Not bad sounding for GM instruments.
