The Bouy - Broken English (cover)

The 1979 Marianne Faithfull track from the album of the same name.

The performances are what they are but mix crits are welcome, I just spent a couple of days driving myself nuts with it so I put it out for your objective ears.

Featuring the Mermaid on BGV's.

A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year too all my good friends here.

I started off moving my head from side to side. Then I stood up. My hips stated moving from side to side. My arms and hands joined in. MY feet started turning from side to side. I was moving! A sideways moon walk all the way across the room.  I began to dance! .....Groovy.....

    Nicely done Bouy and Mermaid.

No crits on the mix but I'm only listening in the headphones.

A Merry Christmas to you too, Jon.  So, it turns out my favorite metal drummer is doing Marianne Faithfull covers accompanied by a mythical creature on BGV's.  Interesting.

The track sounded really solid here.  Nicely done.

Like the groove, very solid punch on the kick.  The mix come across well here.

Wookiees never rarely comment on vocals so I will say nothing other than did you have to ketch the mermaid or was she washed ashore?

The mix sounds really good on my speakers. I loved the way it started and those guitars sound fantastic.

I'm not familiar with the track at all, but i've heard of the album it's from.

The background vocals are a nice touch and work well.

I'm rapidly becoming a fan of your style and this one's no exception.

Interesting and fun with an infectious groove.

    Nice one Jon.

James - Trust me I'm not a fan of my vocal either...

Blipp - I really appreciate that as it is the vibe I'm after.

Janet - Top prize on the attentive stakes as usual.  I actually picked this song in order that I could play guitar on it and whilst I did learn the Gm, Am, Cm chords required for it I couldn't get that 'Big Ben' chime tone from the big chords so I ended up using a sampler instead.

Very cool choice of song to cover ... and the mix sounds great through the headphones.

This is one of those songs that I stopped what I was doing to listen to it when it came on the radio the first time I heard it.

Hi Jon. This is very well done. You do have one of those voices that has so much character it can't do wrong and the mermaid compliments it just right. I also liked the synth. There's something about the way the old synths bounced that was really cool and you did a great job capturing that here. Merry Christmas.

I love this daring artistic movement. Perfect song to cover with your vocal style. I think your voice is unique and can do songs few others would get away with....having said that...you should re-sing or duck tape a few of those benders. The blend with Madame Mermaid is, again, remarkable. Flaunt it. It's funny you using Vincent's pic as avatar because he IS the icon for this kind of daring art.

I like the rhythm tracks... they have a roundness and resiliency that sounds great.

The back ground vocals reminded me Of Ms. Faithful... stylish.

The lead vocals could use something... something that makes it seem more expressive, edgy and less safe.

A pretty good cover of a great old song!!!

    Thanks for sharing.

I remember how this song stood out when it was released, it had that certain 'something' about it. Very nicely put together Jon, the mix is just right.

One observation on your vocals - they started to sound much more comfortable when the key changed at 2:52, but I think it went back to the original key pretty quickly?

I don't recall the original ... but I love this introspective song on many levels.

This is extremely artistic stuff to my ears.  The song is also message-centric ... which my conscience "fights for".

Your tonal (vox) character is deep and warm ... giving a murky-deep and warm vibe.  (My 1st inclination was to HPF your vox for more commercial clarity, but then I realized that might lesson the powerful murky and subliminal tonal character)

Instruments are rich ... and groove-line is rock-solid for me.  They compliment the lyrical inquisition splendidly.

There is generous air within the mix; everything is squarely 'in place', on my K701 cans.

I think this is totally awesome, Jon!

    Hi, Jon,

I don't remember the original of this, but you did a dynamite job on this great cover!

Excellent driving groove, great performances on all the instruments, cool vocals and harmony, and the mix sounds fantastic.  I really love the synth and keyboard work, and your drums are always outstanding.

Spectacular work, Jon, and best wishes for a very Happy New Year!
