Is the VS-700 overkill for the average homestudio user?
I currently have the VS-100 and are drooling over the 700. But is it more suited for someone that has reached a more professional level? The price tag itself should probably give me a hint, but I'm just not sure. What would be the pro & cons, switching to a system like that, for an "amateur"?

The only con I could think of would be it isn't as mobile. But you have the VS-100 for that. I got the Vs-700 for my studio to rent out and it paid for itself in two months. Also bought an Octa-capture to go out and record live bands. The VS-700 also speeds up the recording process. One button for selecting tracks, one button delete, x-ray control, jog wheel, I could go on all day. Really great for mixing tracks. I really like it but, the choice is yours. It is expensive if you don't make money with it. A great unit!

I believe if your WANTING to reach a more professional level... If your heart is in capturing and creating music... By all means Its a great place to start...and will be a set of great tools for moons to come!!! I love all my junk!!! You also need space for multi tracking .. but that is relative... If your a composer of your own tunes and can do it all from your control room ...well....that pretty much answered that question... Man if you want to dedicate yourself to the art of mixing and creating..These are the tools... The price tag looks heavy but the tools are well worth the investment... do remember that the investment never ends...LOL... You need quality mics e.t.c. ...

Thank you for the input! I guess it's no rush to get it, as the equipment I already have can do a fine job. But I don't want it less after your pointers! Man, I need to win the lottery soon :)

I don't know that I'd call it overkill. It's not unusual to have a large number of tracks on even a solo project when you use soft synth tracks, drum tracks, or compose something and do all the parts yourself. As you grow into the art, you'll no doubt want to do larger compositions. In addition to that, if you have the capacity eventually you might want to get a band tracked. Bigger is better.

[font="'times new roman'"]I LOVE mine but have to sell. I am asking $3,300 and it is updated to the current firmware. UGH, makes me want to cry but gotta pay bills and then will be right back in line to purchase again ASAP. It is so easy to work with and sounds so good. I am going to have to use a V-Studio 100, which is at least something. Anyway, sounds like you are not ready to buy yet but it is worth it and keep saving. dsproject Thank you for the input!
