Possible solution for linking Music Creator 5 and Ezdrummer
Hi all,
I own MC5 and recently bought Ezdrummer. To my amazement, it was far from easy linking the 2. I've finally figured it out and so thought I might share what I learnt with everyone else in the hopes that it might save someone some unnecessary stress.
The whole idea of Ezdrummer is that you're supposed to drag & drop a midi drum clip straight into your host program (in my case MC5). But when I tried dragging the clip, I'd get the round circle with the line through it. Basically it wasn't letting me - problem no. 1.
Solution: Run Ezdrummer as an Administrator - in other words, instead of double clicking on your Ezdrummer icon to open the application, right click and select 'run as administrator'. This solve the drag & drop issue.
So now I had a new problem. The drum clips sounded so cool in the sample window in Ezdrummer but when I dragged them over, they would play with an entirely different sound set. I later discovered this to be the drum set that comes with MC5, called
"SI-Drum Kit" - great sounds, but not the ones I wanted.
Sadly, the solution for this isn't as straight forward, but it worked for me. So here goes:
From my understanding, the drum sounds come in the form of VST Plugins. So, as MC5 comes with "SI-Drum Kit", find where this folder is. It'll be something like "cakewalk/VSTPlugins/Studio Instruments/SI-Drum Kit".
Now, you have to look for the ezdrummer.dll file. This could be anywhere. My version of MC5 didn't install correctly so I was unable to find a few of these sound files. On my system it was "program files (x86)/VSTplugins/ezdrummer.dll" (Note: if you've had issues with the accompanying program "AmpliTubeXGEAR", this .dll file is also in here.)
Copy "ezdrummer.dll" (and AmpliTubeXGEAR.dll if need be) into the "Studio Instruments" folder (NOT the SI-Drum Kit folder), as mentioned above.
Now Ezdrummer is installed in the right place for MC5 to find it. But you still have to "Insert" it.
So, open up MC5 with a new project and click on the button "Insert soft synth" then follow this lead: "Soft Synths/Studio Instruments/Ezdrummer.
A box will pop up. Just make sure that "Single track instrument", "Recall Assignable Controls" & "Ask this Everytime" are checked, then hit "Ok"
That's it. This is what I did and it worked. I now have the brilliant sounds of Ezdrummer in MC5.
I hope this saves someone a lot of grief and stress.
take it easy guys,
Stecchino
