Monitor vs Power Interference

Ok, even though I have been noodling around a few  years, I am just really still a newb. Today I bought my first studio monitors, Yamaha HS 80M. Plugged them in and was greeted with a hideous hiss/buzz. Up until now I have "monitored" through headphones and occassionally a home stereo set up and I have never had a problem with noise.

I have worked out the source of the noise is interference from my laptop power supply. When I pull it out and operate the lappy on battery it is silent.

So....whats the trick? Buy a different power supply? One thing I thought about but I am ignorant about is "proper" speaker cables. At the moment I just have an instrument cable connecting to the speakers, could that be the source of the noise, if I use "balanced" cables, would that help?

Any help would be appreciated.

BTW, I am really happy with these monitors, it obviously makes a huge difference.

Switching power supplies (what PC power supplies are) can generate RFI "hash" but generally recent power supplies are relatively problem free.

I assume you have them plugged into the Presonus Audiobox's "Line out".  If you are plugged into the headphone out, change to the Line Out's.  I had a noise problem in my Samson studio monitors and it turned out it was because I was connecting them to a headphone out on my Saffire Pro 40 rather than the "line out's".   You should also be using shielded audio cables.
