Blue Screen of Terror
Ok, so I've been working with MC6 for about 2 months, and I've been living with this one problem since the start. And the time has come to try to sort this out. First the facts, I am running MC6 on a Windows 7 Home Premium operating system. I have your typical hardware connected to my computer (printer, scanner, speakers, that sort of thing). The non-typical devices that I have are the Lexicon Lambda Pro audio interface and the Midiman 49 USB Keystation keyboard controller. The Lexicon hardware is always connected to my computer. The Midiman keyboard is only physically connected when I am specifically entering midi note data. Right from the first time I used MC6, I can open the program, create new, open existing and save projects with no problems. I can close files and open others with no problems. However, when I close the program, I get the dreaded windows blue screen of terror. I have not jotted down any of the information that flashes up for that 1 second before my computer unvolunterily reboots. I can try to capture it on video and pull out the necessary frames, if anyone knows what to do with that information. However, since this problem only happens in MC6, I figured I'd start (and hopefully finish) my trouble shooting here. I'm confident I have not provided enough information to solve this, but if anyone thinks they can help, and need more information, please do not hesitate to ask. This is a nusiance problem that I'd love to be able to solve! Thanks, Patrick

I get that on my factory lappy from time to time. I used to use the lappy as my DAW for 3 years. The BSOD would occur generally at the most inopportune moments and cause a loss of data. I have never figured out why it occurs. I've heard it's from driver conflicts. Note: I do not use the lappy for my DAW anymore, but it still has all the software on it. And yeah it still BSOD's me every once in a while. No particular pattern to it. I could be listening to music or surfing the net or watching video's on it..... BANG....BSOD.... reboot, and life is good again.... IDK. Its a pain for sure....so save often while recording.

My concern is that it is actually my audio interface, not the MC6. One day when I'm feeling energetic, I'll uninstall the AI and see if MC6 becomes stable again. The good news is the problem is consistent and happens everytime. So it is easy to recreate.

How old is the Keystation? The latest update I could find at M-Audio is from 2005 and they list no Windows OS, only Mac. Do you have it connected via USB or via MIDI to the Lambda? Do you get the BSOD when the Keystation is not connected?

yes, most blue screens are due to drivers, not software.

Do you get the BSOD when the Keystation is not connected? The keystation is about 7 years old. It is mostly not connected to my computer. The BSOD happens whether or not the keystation is attached. I connect it by USB directly to the computer. The Lambda is also connected to my computer via USB. This device is always connected to my computer. My gut is telling me that this is the culprit, and there are no newer drivers available. I will disconnected it and see if I can get in and out of MC6 without the DBSOD (first D for 'dreaded').

You may have to remove the driver for the keystation to stop the BSOD. Providing that you have a backup of the drivers, I would go ahead and remove the drivers and see if this fixes your BSOD. If so, then it's time for a new keyboard controller. If not, then you can eliminate this as your problem. I've been using an older M-Audio Radium 49 w/ XP and it seems to be working just fine, BTW. Also, are you running 32-bit or 64-bit WIN7 OS?

Tap, I'm running 32 bit Win7 OS. I think I have the original installation driver files for the keyboard controller, so I can try your suggestion. Thanks for the thoughts.

Does the blue screen say something about USB DRIVER BUG or something like that? You may want to try resetting your MIDI and turning off the audio engine just before exiting X1 and see if that helps. You may have a sound stuck going out to your device? Glen
