No Sound on Exported Wav/Mp3 files

I have an old version of Cakewalk Music Creator 2002 and I haven't used it in years,.  Recently I reinstalled the program to extract an old song that I once worked on.  Everything seems to be there the way I remember it.  In the interface the song plays.   However, when I export the project there is no sound.   The file appears to be there in the correct minutes and seconds, just no sound when it plays.   I have tried to export it as a variety of different file types.

It's been a long time so I really have no idea what I'm doing wrong.  I have fiddled around with the drivers, different outputs, etc.

we need a lot more info.  is this all AUDIO tracks or MIDI and synth tracks?  if MIDI, what is your synth output for the MIDI tracks?

what soundcard are you using?  which driver mode?  when you say you have "fiddled around with the drivers, different outputs" - what exactly do you mean by that?

So you're trying to play the exported file with Windows Media Player? Do other audio play back through WMP?

What if you import the track back to MC?

When you export the song file, I would recommend putting it on the desktop temporarily. Then import it back into a NEW project in an audio track....or into an audio editor that allows you to view the wave form.

See if the exported file has a wave form in it or just a straight, flat line.

If you hit export on a song, and have neglected to select the track to export, the program looks like it exported something but since no tracks are selected, it exports silence.

Check to make sure you have tracks selected.  Are you exporting a wav file or MP3? Did you purchase a license for the MP3 decoder? If not, most people export a wave file and then use an external program to convert to mp3. The wave file should be 16bit to convert, since most external wave players/converters can't handle 24 bit wave files.
