Can I Change the Default Folder?

Hi,

I've just taken delivery of a new PC with three hard drives. When I open MC6 and click File\Open, a menu appears with the default folder showing: C:\Cakewalk Projects. However, my projects are stored on another drive. So I have to navigate to the appropriate folder on the F: drive. Is there any way of changing the default folder that appears when I click File\Open?

Thanks,
John

Why not do what I do?  I allow cake to store the new projects and recent ones too in it's default drive location.

When I finish a project and don't think I'll need it any time soon.....since I have all the projects in thier own folders with audio, I simply go in once in a while, select all the projects that are ready for storage and cut/paste to the storage folder for that specific year....on my storage drive and mirror that on my external backup as well.

If I ever need to work on them later, I simply click: Computer>drive>folder>project and work on it and save it right where it now lives,,,,and life is good.

To answer your question..... IDK... but I can look around to see.

Thanks for the tip Herb. I might have to adopt your suggestion, unless someone knows how to change the path to the default folder, which would be my preferred option.

By the way, I wasn't sure what 'IDK' means, so I looked it up on AcronymFinder. Some of my favorites: 'In Da Kitchen', 'Individual Decontamination Kit', 'Internal Derangement of the Knee' ... and of course the obvious, 'I Don't Know'.

    Thanks again Herb.

I prefer not to store or use the default drive for projects.  that causes sonar to use the C: drive for the program AND for recording/streaming files.  that can cause stuttering and dropout since the same hard drive is being accessed for the opertaing system, sonar, and for continuously recording and/or playing wave files from the project.

all you have to do to change it is go to preferences by pressing "P" on the keyboard and then go to FILE>FOLDER LOCATION and change the PROJECT FILES location to the new drive.  I suggest leaving the CAKEWALK PROJECTS folder in the path.  and I suggest using PER PROJECT FOLDERS so that all of your audio files are kept with that folder.  you can select PER PROJECT FOLDERS in the next screen under AUDIO DATA.

Thanks for that Beagle. I've seen that menu before, where you can change the location of a number of folders, but it never entered my head. Problem solved. Yes, I've always used per project folders.

Specs of the new system below. It's very nice ... whisper quiet and running like a dream.
