Ya Buddy (Rockabilly)

Happy New Year y'all.

It has been several weeks since I have checked out the forum and I am amazed at all the terrific stuff that has been posted in that time.  Wow!

I have just posted this number on the SoundClick site.  It is a little rockabilly-ish number about two guys talking about one girl.  One used to date her before the other did.
I would appreciate any suggestions, comments, tips, etc. that you might have concerning it.
I also hope that it may give you a bit of a giggle.

Thanks!

Ya Buddy

I got a bit of a giggle from this.  I think the mix and production are perfect for this style of music.  This should bring a bit of cheer to all who listen to it.  Well done.

    Hi Freddie,

I was thinking of you the other day. I haven't seen a post from you in quite some time and I was a little worried. Glad to see.

I love this! :) Reminds me of the first band I was in. It sounds exactly like us! We did 40~50 country and rockabilly.

    Great song.

    Thanks,

    Bub. :)

    Hey, Freddy,

Nice job on this very cool, upbeat Rockabilly number!

Great bouncy vibe, clever lyrics, excellent playing, super vocals and harmony, and a nice, clean, wide mix.

    Good stuff, as always, buddy!

Hello Freddy.   Man i love your guitar playing on this.  Great solo.
I would add a smidge more verb on vocals for a rock-a-billy feel

Thank you Lynn.  I had fun doing this one and was hoping some of that fun might have been passed along in the song.

Hey Bruce.  Upon re-listening (is that a word or did I just make it up?) to this, I wish I had doubled the clapping track to make it sound more full.  Oh well, next time!  Thanks for the listen and comments.

Thanks Robby! -- and oh yes, Ya Buddy I know just what you mean.

Hi Bub!  I would have loved to hear your band as I am developing quite an interest in this genre.  Thanks for the comments.  I'm glad to be back.  I had a couple of annoying medical things -- proving that getting older is not for sissies -- but all is well now.

Hi Bob.  Thanks for your kind words.  I always appreciate it when you listen and take the time to comment. Thanks again.

Thanks Rick.  Some day I am going to get over my caution on overusing verb on vocals.  I agree with you Rockabilly really isn't Rockabilly with out a bit of verb.  Thanks again for your very kind comments and insight.

Hey Robert.  I really glad that you enjoyed it.  Thanks for the good words.

Thanks a million Frank.  I'm glad that it gave you a giggle.

Hi Bill --- great to hear from you.  I'm glad that you like it and thanks a bunch listening and for the good words.

Great concept!  This would do well commercially, it has a lot of apeal.  Well done too, maybe one of my favorite things of yours.  I like the guitar solo, sounds a little hesitant maybe, but the licks are good.  Harmonies good too.  Love the clapping, makes it very party time.  Cool, snappy and fun!

This song is fun. The balance seems good. I could hear this on a good honky tonk station. Something around :50 seconds in started catching my ear. I think it may be a slight timing issue. Maybe something needs a little nudge forward. Of course, it may be my ears are just tired after a long day. Great job!

Like squashman, there's a weird timing issue with the guitars around 0:50.  Maybe a little delay (very little feedback) on the verse vocals to separate them from the music a little more.
Other than that, it's great.  Solid playing, great lyrics, thanks for this.

Good fun stuff Freddy, that's a smiler! Great simple, catchy chorus, sweeet.

I think the timing issues mentioned above are down to the kick/snare patterns in the turnarounds, they're straight whereas the guitars are shuffling.

Got a feeling you might do that on purpose though, 'cos I've mentioned it before.

Freddy - this is great!  you've improved so much since you first started posting here.  I agree with the timing issues, but I think James has it right, to me it sounds like a shuffle contention with the kick/snare.  it happens at 1:20 also and maybe another time or two.

good deal Freddy!  I like this!

Hi Scotty.  You are most welcome.  I appreciate your listening and Thank You!

Hey Darryl.  Thanks for the kind words and input.  I was trying to get a bit of a Carl Perkins feel on the 1st lead ----- on a lot of his stuff he comes in kind of late and then catches up.  I guess I better leave this kind of stuff to the pro's :>)   Thanks again.

Doin' great Gary!  Thanks buddy.  I appreciate your listening and kind words.

Thanks Glen.  It's about time I got close to doing something right :>)

Ron, Matt, James, and Reece ---- Doggone if you guys aren't good.  I went back and listened a couple of times and yup there was a little thing in the back.  As best as I could hear it was a kick/snare pattern difference, so I went back to the file.  I was using drum loops in this number and for some reason, I used a different loop series in the first sung verse.  I would like to say that I intended to but it was just a dumb error.  Thanks a bunch for bringing it to my attention and thanks for listening and commenting!!

Thanks Reece.  I was pretty green when I started on this forum.  I am grateful to you and the others on this forum who have listened to my stuff and offered up some great tips and explanations. I don't always make the corrections immediately to the specific song but I do take notes and try to apply everything that I have learned.  I know that I still have a long way to go but hopefully, I have improved a wee, little bit.  I can definitely say that I have had a ball in learning.

Great job Freddy. Did make me chuckle.

Since I'm a 'know it all' like all the artists/producers/engineers on this forum I have only one nit. The drum fill coming out of the turnaround/chorus seems out of time to me. Prolly just me.

Hi Larry!  Thanks a million for the very kind words.  I really glad that you got a bit of a kick out of this.  Don't forget when you put on your white sox you have to stick them inside the dress Wellington boots with the bead chains hung around them and puff out that pompador-- oh ya, and don't forget your black leather jacket (with an eagle on the back) ;>)  Thanks again!

Hey Grant!  I very glad that you liked it.  I'll keep on listening to Rockabilly Radio and Rock-it Radio (on-line) to make sure I remember how this genre is supposed to sound.  Thanks for listening and for taking the time to respond.

BAPU -- thanks a bunch!!!!  I glad that this brought a smile to your face.  Nope -- it is not just you.  Some comments above pointed out the very same thing and all of y'all are right.  It was my error.  I was using commercial drum loops and I plugged the wrong one in the verses.  It was close enough that my unsophisticated ears did not catch it, but those that know what they are doing caught it.  I think that I must of had one of my senior moments?!..!?  Thanks again for listening and pointing that out.
