you have to have a softsynth as output for your MIDI track.  which version of MC do you have?

MC5 & MC6 came with SI Drums that you can use.

Re:adding drums to a track view still having probs January 06, 12 9:56 AM (permalink)
Have tried what you suggested Beagle but still cant record the Studio Instrument drum kit loops into the project. I get to the screen displaying a drum kit and can play after selecting which genre I want but then cannot record that as a track. I can select a TTSI and a "midi groove loop" drum sound but these are not as good as the wide range under the Studio Instrument drum kit. Any help appreciated and in fact had a look at your web page - very useful tips and will make a donation soon for your help. Thanks

"Playing" the onscreen kit won't record anything; it's just for sampling the sounds.
You have to drag the MIDI clips into a MIDI track with it's output set to the soft synth. Or click the + symbol. I forget. I'll check; BRB...
    Yeah, it's click and drag.

rigtht - you can't "record" what's on the kit.  you can drag and drop the MIDI loops from the included program or you can create your own, or you can record using a keyboard or a drum MIDI controller.

this is for sonar, but x1 and mc6 are very similar.  this talks about session drummer 3, but look at the way he auditions the kits and the way he auditions the MIDI loops and drags them to the MIDI track.  you do the same thing with SI drums.
