CANT FIND SUPERIOR DRUMMER 2 IN SONAR X1

I have Installed all 5 discs of superior drummer 2 onto my computer. watched a couple of videos on youtube. When I pull down insert/ soft synth/ it should be there. so went into manage layouts in the VST config window hit options added the folder from program files hit scan vst plugins. STILL NOT THERE! I'm very new to this so step by step would help.

Make sure Superior Drummer.dll is in your vst folder, open the Plugin Manager and click the "Scan" button. If the dll isn't in \program files\cakewalk\vstplugins, find where it is and either copy it there or add whatever folder it is in to the vst folders list in Plugin Manager.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

64bit or 32bit?  have you gotten the superior drummer update from toontrack?  if not, it won't work in 64bit.

If the dll isn't in \program files\cakewalk\vstplugins, find where it is and either copy it there

If you copy the file to your VST folders you will be setting yourself up for troubles in the future.  There is no need for the Superior Drummer dll file to be in the Cakewalk Vst plugins directory.  All you have to do is to browse out to it's installed location via the VST Scan window and create a scan path to it.  Then rescan your VST plugins.

If you insist on having Superior Drummer's dll in the Vst plugins directory and it is not installed there then you must uninstall and reinstall the plug in with carefull attention to the installation options.

Always...always...look at each dialog in the install process of ANY vst instrument or plug and see where it is going to install the .dll file(s).  If you prefer to have these in another folder...make the change then and there.  Mod's right on this one...for some vsts just copying them over into another folder might work...but your only risking frustration down the line.

Where you come from is gone...where you thought you were goin to weren't never there...and where you are ain't no good unless you can get away from it.

In Toontrack's case it is guaranteed you will have a problem.  It usually shows up when you buy a new SDX and it won't load or some other problem.  Then the user is asked if he is running the latest update which they answer "Yes" because they just downloaded and updated it.  But eventually, they discover that the DLL in use has not been updated and a new one has been created in the original directory.
