any special techniques for mastering solo piano?
Well at first I thought there was nothing to master, one stereo track and that's it, right? but maybe I'm wrong? I have two possible scenarios one is recording digital stage piano and the other I guess more complex is recording acoustic grand piano with 2 condensed mikes. So anybody here has experience with piano recording? In case of a acoustic I can imagine some panning is needed but with digital? probably not. thanks

Buy the Ivory Italian Grand and record on a keyboard. If you do, I can give you some inside tips on tweaking even further, even though to me, it sounds like swimming in chocolate might feel right out of the box. :) http://www.ilio.com/products/synthogy-instruments/ig I've recorded one or two piano songs if you want to listen to my stuff. :)

Mastering...or sweetening...... will make a well recorded piano sound even better. While the midi sample is great right out of the box, as Janet said.... throwing some mastering tools into the game will doubtless make it even richer when it's done right. A bit of compression, some Eq, maybe some verb and some widening .... just a touch of each, nothing too heavy.... nothing but the truth on a nice piano track.

When I read "how to master solo piano", my initial reaction was 20+ years of practice, practice, practice. Seems like something else was meant

"spacealf" Well, I suppose at some time some people try the sixty exercises of Hanon The Virtuoso Pianist. Play them all successively, every day for the next 2 years and that should take care of your naturally weak fingers. "Guitarhacker" While the midi sample is great right out of the box, as Janet said.... throwing some mastering tools into the game will doubtless make it even richer when it's done right. The Ivory Italian Grand is sample based, not midi... but you know that. "mike_mccue" If you can't afford Ivory Grand you might try to borrow one of these for the weekend Its got "Liberace" written all over it.
