Music Creator 6 midi problems

Hello I just got Music Creator 6 I am trying to import some midi files but having some problems. MC6 is leaving out notes when I play any midi files. It happens even with the provided drum clips. Why would MC6 be skipping notes with midi and what can I do to stop it? If it matters I am using Windows Vista 32bit and the TTS-1 softsynth that came with Cakewalk.

Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi Also forgot to mention this. If I click the icon on the drum unit that lets you try out the drums and patterns the drum patterns sound fine. If I load those patterns into my project they skip notes just like any other midi. Also midi files play fine with windows media players and the sound card's crappy default gm.

What driver mode are you using?
I believe the X-Fi has a music creation option that allows it to use ASIO. Is that correct?

I don't know what you mean by driver mode. I have the option to use asio4all driver which I had for some other reason. Not sure why I would though.

Open MC then click the P button on your computer keyboard to bring up Preferences. The Driver Mode is the first thing on the list. What is it set at?

And this forum software doesn't work well with many browsers. It likes Internet Explorer.
Oh, welcome to the forum, too.

    2 things....

I will restrain my comments on Sound Blaster cards to...... there are much better sound cards to use for recording. SB is near the bottom of the list of good cards to use. BUT.... setting up the driver properly and adjusting the parameters should allow you to get a relatively decent performance for small projects that don't use much midi.... until you can afford to get a good card/interface.

Firefox and this forum software stopped working well together a few months back so many of us have started using CHROME, OPERA, and other browsers to keep carriage returns and other things working properly.

does the SB card not work in WDM driver mode or ASIO driver mode?  try those modes and see if that fixes your problem.  greg told you how to find which driver mode you're using, just go to the same place to CHANGE it.  for WDM mode MC will want to run tests on the soundcard.

if neither of those modes work, then google ASIO4ALL, download, unzip, install it and then change back to ASIO driver mode, using the ASIO4ALL driver on the PLAYBACK and RECORDING DEVICES.

if that doesn't work, I have one more thing we can try.

MME is the oldest, slowest, least efficient audio driver. You should be able to use WDM or WASAPI in Vista, either of which should give you better performance, audio-wise.
If the SB has a real ASIO driver available, you should use it. Uninstall ASIO4All first, though. They're not the same thing and ASIO4All tends to not let real ASIO drivers work.

None of the listed drivers produce any sound except for MME. /n I'm happy to report however that I solved the note skipping by increasing the Mixing Latency to 120.0 ms. This has worked for all the midi files I have tried so far. /n Thank you all for your help and feel free to post any more info on the issue if you like.

There might be another place to adjust in addition to mixing latency, the source of the problem.
I believe in the preferences of MC there is a a setting called something like "MIDI buffers...prepare using xx ms". Double that buffer, and you should be ok.

I don't have MC, so I'm not 100% sure this setting is included. In SONAR 8.x versions this buffer has been the main cause of randomly skipped MIDI-notes.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

Increasing the latency buffer gives the software more time to "think" and to get the notes ready to play...hence you have fewer skipped or dropped notes. It also increases the delay/latency quite a bit.

It's a trade off for now. When you get a decent USB external audio interface that runs ASIO drivers you will be able to lower that number considerable and not miss a single note.
