Video Camera clipped audio issue

I have a Canon HF R20 video camera.......I recorded some live band footage to upload to youtube...unfortunately the audio clips in alot of spots (volume was probably too loud for the built in condenser mikes in the camera)
Is there ANY way to fix this? In Sonar, in another program, perhaps?
I'm still looking for decent video editing software as well
Thanks

Hi there Gaffpro I have just experienced this myself recently. I was given a high quality video camera and just went out and did some video of my son playng in a Jazz ensemble. The reason is that most cameras use an auto gain type setting and it just does not cope well with music.

You need to look deeply into the menus and settings on the camera. There is a complete (or should be) mode that is manual. All this auto gain stuff is simply turned off and you adjust the Mic pre gain while the music is playing so you need a sound check really to do this. You will find everything will sound way better after you do.

There is not a lot you can do to these recordings after the fact really. A lot of this distortion has been created in the camera itself. Best thing is to avoid it next time.

What daryl1968 is saying below is not entirely correct. This camera of mine has got two mikes built in and they sound excellent. It is not the microphones in this case but rather the silly Automatic Gain control settings that can cause the problem.

Izotope RX2 might be some help, but if it is badly distorted, it might be a lot of work. It is also a bit of money for the standard version (which I have). I find it a very good tool and have used it many times, so for me, it is worth the cost. http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/rx/ gs

Get one of these and use an external Mic.http://whirlwindusa.com/c...m2c-camera-mic-adapter .Built in camera mics suck.
