X1 and Melodyne bounce (solved)
Ok, I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. Fix a vocal line in Melodyne. I hear the fixed vocal in Melodyne on playback. I bounce the track down by muting everything else...(the usual way). The bounced track that I am left with is the original audio not the post Melodyne audio. I have also tried freezing the audio and and up with the original audio. Is there a setting/option I am missing?

'Muting everything else' ? I highlight the clip and in the bounce dialogue choose Tracks in the source category not Entire Mix. Maybe it's something to do with that?

Try right-clicking on the Melodyne'd clip within the SONAR clips pane and choose Bounce To Clip. That should do it.

I will give that a try Skyline - thanks. Does it work for you if you freeze the track after editing?

Have you checked Melodynes help file? You don't say which Melodyne you're using, and it's been awhile since I used my Melodyne Plugin, but IIRC you don't select the bouncing from the SONAR toolbar, but inside the Melodyne GUI. And then again...maybe I remember it all wrong...

Sorry, I'm using Essentials (the basic single track version) as a plug in. Everything seems to be hunky dory until I try to bounce the file. I am lucky not to have to use Melodyne very often as I work with some extremely talented vocalists. However, I am singing on this one so.........

daryl, I don't believe Bounce to Clips works with Melodyne. You have to do the whole track: all or nothing. Different concept than V-Vocal.

Ah... bummer. This is actually the main reason I sprung for S1 v2 - the ARA integration is nice. It makes working with Melodyne much easier IMO.

When I'm done working with it I do jonny3d stated. Process, Apply Effects, and check Delete effects from Bin. But only when I'm certain I am done with it. I also always work with a Clone of the original track to preserve the original just in case.

I have essentials and I select the track and Bounce to Track from the menu. I choose TRACKS and WHAT YOU HEAR. The bounced track is now the one I heard on playback. I would suggest when you bounce to remove ALL other FX and plugs you have in the track such as reverb. All you want is melodyne doing it's thing on the vox. After the bounce...check it and then insert the FX and plugs in the new track. Once the bounced track is checked for accuracy..... click SAVE, and it is then safe to remove the original track....or archive and hide it.

If you are searching this forum for this subject in the not too distant future, this is how it worked for me with Melodyne used in the FX bin.........................edit with Melodyne as usual > highlight (click on) the clip that you just edited > Track > Bounce To Track > Track (not entire mix) > uncheck Fast Bounce.........two things to remember. 1) it is easier and quicker if you split the clip to the length you are editing in Melodyne before bouncing. 2) turn off any other effects in the FX bin and on the prochannel before bouncing as these will also be rendered.

I also use the Process/Apply Effects method. Never had a problem. Plus I make a clone of the original track BEFORE instantiating Melodyne and then archive and hide it. I then tweak in Melodyne and then "apply effect".

myolpal - weird, I couldn't get the Process/Apply effects thing to work. Maybe a soundcard thing. My full workflow was/is > insert a track below the vocal track and name it Melodyne and insert Melodyne on that tracks FX bin. When there is a vocal part that needs fixing drag and drop that split section to the Melodyne track, edit and then bounce back to the original vocal track. For me, it just means that there's never an issue with forgetting to remove and bouncing unwanted FX. I have a terrible memory and have regular brain farts.

This worked until X1d for me. I've only recently found that the un-effected vocal remains after bouncing the clips with melodyne in the clip FX Bin. Why? I have no idea I have not changed the way I work with Melodyne.

Quite often, after I have bounced the track and moved on....I will hear something in the melodyned (but now bounced) vocal track that I missed the first time. I will simply scroll to before that point in the song..... I remove the FX in the track by dragging them to a spare holding track while I work, then I will let melodyne capture that one small glitch. I fix the glitch and then run the PROCESS AUDIO which prints the fix directly into the track. The glitch is fixed and verified, then I drag the plugs back in from the holding track and continue with my work.

timecode based plugins are not working right as of X1D. Uncheck fastbounce option. (for now till Cake fixes what they've screwed up)

Just ran into this recently as well. Definitely seems something with time based effects is not working as expected in X1D. I tried the same things in SONAR 8.5.3 and it was able to fast bounce. It was odd after using X1 for a considerable amount of time to go back to 8.5.3 you really noticed the difference workflow and layout wise. I really have been enjoying working with X1.

Yes I've had to use 8.5.3 for Tuning and timing latetly as the timecode plugins and Audio snap hasn't worked properly since D as well. particularly bounced clips and the audio snap markers, plus the online rendering of audio snap groove clip introduces 99.9db distortions/noises on all stretched clips (tempo has to have been changed, groove clip enabled online, clip follows project (stretch))then click around the timeline. Not to mention Frozen clips not unfreezing, clips that aren't frozen saying they are frozen. And the inability to drag (not drag copy) a midi effect from one clip/bin to another without a fatal crash. 8.5.3 is still saving X1's rear well over a year after being released. Fastbouncing timecode based plugins is a must and is a Major part of workflow. Audio snap functionality and stability is must. I'm very well amused at all of those saying X1D is the best.

Would you Adam and Eve it! If this was a bug introduced in X1D as also mentioned above has it been reported with an offical CWBRN No. and have Cakewalk acknowledged it at all? I have noticed it since X1, not just X1d. Sonar 8.5.3 bounces to clip just fine. This discovery has come up a few times now, at least one thread started by me I believe, lol. Bounce to clip with Melodyne is essential to my vocal editing workflow. They gotta fix this. It is obviously Sonar problem since it bounces perfectly in 8.5.3 Lance

Why is this not acknowledged in a sticky post announcement???? This is kind of a big deal. I wasted hours tuning vocals over and over, and honestly don't even know the amount of other plugins that have not been rendered correctly due to this issue. Im willing to hold on and do workarounds till it's fixed, but SAY SOMETHING to your patient customers. I did not post a single "Where is X1d" comment or send any angry/curious emails to cakewalk. I assumed the longer it took, the better it'd be and more solid. So I simply just want an acknowledgement that it's in sight by Cake and is being looked at. Also, tell me us work-around(s). Breaking the fast "bounce-to-clip" process without telling anyone is a bit of a piss off to me and makes me nervous because it's a core function I use daily and has been working the same for ages. What else could be 'broken' without anyone knowing till several hours have been wasted? Just to clarify, I'm not demanding squat. I'm not overly angered and saying "enough with Sonar argh!". I just want some sort of "hey sorry, but this is broken so try doing this instead..." about this issue so we all know it's real and is being looked at. </rant>
