Problems with A300 and Live 8 + Reason

I hope someone on here can help me out.  I have an A300 controller, Live 8 Suite, and Reason.  In Live, I don't really use any of the knobs and faders on the controller. I usually use the mouse.  But when I use Reason, I want to be able to assign some of the parameters to the A300.  

For instance - last night I wrote a midi track in Live, sent it to Reason, and returned the audio into Live.  Then I wanted to add some mod wheel automation so I went into Reason, assigned the filter cutoff to R1 by using the remote override function, and it works perfectly.  However, I noticed that most of my knobs and faders on the A300 are pre-assigned to seemingly random stuff within Reason.  For instance, knob R1 is pre-assigned to the Velocity knob on track 8 in the ReDrum step drum machine.  WTF?  I spent over an hour trying to figure out how to delete that assignment but I never figured it out.

At this point I think I would prefer to just assign my own knobs to everything, but it seems like Reason keeps auto-assigning stuff.  If in Preferences I delete my A300 controller and tell Reason I'm using a generic controller with no auto-map, then it won't let me manually assign anything!

Does the A300 just not work well with Reason or am I totally doing it wrong?  Looking for any advice on setups!!!
