FastBikerBoy Thanks for all the support from you all, I think the PC is a great concept but like everything can always be improved and IMHO this will be one big improvement. Love the idea. Will submit this feature request this weekend.

RogerH inaheartbeat In a previous forum topic I thought someone not only thought of the Fx bin as a PC module but actually made a graphical mockup of what it would look like. Being able to drag the Fx bin inside of the PC modules in any order you like I think is better than a send and return. Just seems more elegant. I wish I could figure out what topic had that graphic. That was such a good idea. Ken That was me. Orginal thread: http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2457604 Yes that was it!!! If they could make it look and work like that it would be perfect. I love the graphic on this one. Submit this with the graphic as the suggestion and I am definitely signed up. Thanks. Ken

I'm hoping that it's not just an insert point but rather lot's of insert points. Maybe Cakewalk can sell a PC4k Channel Insert point module and then we can use as many instances as we want. Maybe a $49 module or something like that. That way I can use all may favorite VST stuff with ProChannel. It will be totally cool if the ProChannel 4k Channel Insert is VST3 compatible too. Cakewalk could do a PC 4k Bus Insert module too... maybe bundle the 2 for $74.99 or something like that. best regards, mike

This flexibility would be a good idea. Especially for those wanting to work exclusively in Pro Channel. DONE!

why not just make the pc modules available as VSTs, so usable in the fx bin?

keith I must be missing something. PC and FX Bin are specifically not designed to work together because they perform the same function. If they worked together like one big FX bin, why would you need both? I can only speak for myself............ but.......... Sometimes I want to put a VST somewhere in the chain, usually metering in my case. The great advantage of the prochannel is that the window management normally associated with multiple instances of VSTs on tracks is a non-issue. It's all there in one place visible if I want it and hidden if I don't. The number of times I've had to cycle through countless windows of compressors, etc looking for the correct one just to find it isn't opened, or needing to double click a VST to show it's windows is IMHO insanity. The PC concept does away with all of that. Maybe one day there will be a module for every thing that I need. At the moment there isn't and even if there were I'm sure I'd find a use for an insert. It'd be really kewl to have anyway...... Thanks Roger H for the graphic and suggestion in the first place....

i can see window management as a benefit, but at a gui cost surley? thing is, VSTs expose their parameters anyway, so why not just have a "generic" vs "product" gui switch on the fx bin? kind of like the 8 live macro knobs... imagine using an apc40 as fluidly with sonar...

It would be cool too if there could be some "PC module" type view of some of the more popular plugins that would act as the UI for the non-PC plug-in which exposed some or all of its features and controls. That way we could have a Waves plug inline with other ProChannel plugs, but sporting a UI overlay that made it look just like every other ProChannel plug. (The UI overlay would simply map externally visible controls to the hidden controls of the native plugin -- similar to the way FX Chains maps its visible controls).

Did someone mention a custom prochannel module that is the equivalent of the custom fx chain? Small number of controls connected in various ways to one or more VSTs. (Especially with the fx chains update coming in x1d)

Bristol_Jonesey I like your thinking Karl, but given the current modus operandi of Cakewalk, if it does happen - it will probably work in a different way. How about - a new PC module called 'Fx Bin', from where you can insert any vst you have on your system. It will be fully draggable inside PC to any position you want. And they can charge a nominal £9 for loyal users....... I thought the same thing earlier but combine it with the fxchains 2.0 so you can make changes without opening the module.

It'd be really kewl to have anyway...... I see... I guess it's too bad the new PC didn't just replace the old FX Bin then... As of now we have two different FX Bin that don't interoperate -- by design. The PC could just amount to a new visualization of the old FX Bin. I could be wrong, but I don't think the VST spec or API (at least 1.x/2.x) precludes the host from using a single OS window to host more than one VST, rack style. There may be performance reasons why a user would want to avoid displaying 10 VSTs simultaneously -- graphical overhead needed for meter updates, etc. -- but that's no diffeent than having the same 10 VST in their own windows all open simultaneously, and would be solved anyway by the obvious need for collapsing rack elements. Plus, w/ the ability to remap params FX Chain style as others have mentioned... the sky's the limit, right? Two issues would have needed to be solved: 1.) restrict usage of PC modules to SONAR, and 2.) ability to show PC modules as open by default so when dropping PC modules into the FX Bin you effectively get the PC view you would otherwise see today. #1 has already been implemented previously, and #2 is a no-brainer. Down the road, the same "proprietary" modules could have been sold individually or in bundles for double the price as general VSTs... gravy.

You're right. I couldn't really care less whether it is in the PC or an improved FX bin with VST content. What I like is that when I select a track, assuming I have the inspector open I can see the effects on that track straight away, or press "I" and then see them. If VSTs automatically bought their windows to the front on track selection then I wouldn't have to go window cycling and I'd agree the PC concept is rather pointless. As it is they don't, so for me at least the PC is an improvement on what is currently available. I also agree that there should be a method to interoperate between them, hence my feature request and this thread. Brandon Ryan has posted elsewhere that there is to be a keyboard shortcut added to X1d for bringing the PC to the front of the inspector, that will be a big help as well.

Excellent idea and interface concept! I want it to look just like that. I love the prochannel, also due to window management. It allows me to work so much faster and smoother, plus the prochannel modules all sound great. I stopped using Waves plugins and, with only a few exceptions, don't miss them.

When I actually think about it: just allow VSTs to be drag and dropped from browser into PC- give them the grey little frame (maybe different color frame to distinguish from PC modules) with stylized ProChannel font. Then they can be double clicked to be opened in their natural GUI (or already opened when drag dropped. They are all VSTs2.4 anyway aren't they?

backwoods What about "add module" fx bin. This goes into PC and then can be filled with VSTs. ProChannel modules can be placed either side and more fx bins (could even look like the current ones) could be added. You nailed it in a sentence.... I believe I requested such when X1 was released.... A year later they're still selling me compressors... Keni

Why do you want to buy the ProChannel 4k Inserts?

Why do you want to buy the ProChannel 4k Inserts? Personally, I can barely wait... I really look forward to having both a ProChannel 4k Channel Insert and a ProChannel 4k Bus Insert. I have a real good reason for it too.... I'd like to use some efx that I know work. If you plan on buying the ProChannel 4k Channel Insert and the ProChannel 4k Bus Insert now is the time to explain why. Maybe Cakewalk will make them work just like you think they will work. What key features are you hoping will be included with the inserts? best regards, mike learning to spell
