Finger squeaking on right hand - fingerpicking
Hi - I am recently working on recording some instrumentals on my acoustic - (body and neck mics), and while the left hand / fret board squeaking is a desireable part of the ambience; my right hand fingerpicking squek is a little much at times. I have tried spraying some finger-ease directly on the tips of my fingers as well as the strings, but this does not seem to make much difference.

I enjoy using semi flats on acoustics when recording. They aren't easy to find but you might want to order a pair and see if you like recording with them. best regards, mike

will try those out. To tell the truth I recently had this guitar re-strung by a shop while I was away and it was in there a long time having the bridge repaired as well. I really did not pay attention to what strings he used...so need to find out and see if they are the culprit. I do know they are a light guage.

silver, two things that have worked for me.... 1. Fast Fret: I hate using it and rarely use it on strings. I like to apply it when I do a string change to the neck only, but never the strings. However, in certain situations when I have gotten a bit more string noise than I wanted, one stroke of FF over the strings fixed me up. 2. When FF wasn't available, this is gross...but it works. When I've had this issue and there was nothing around for me to fix it, I stuck my hand in a bag of potato chips, wiped off the excess and played and it worked beautifully. I don't condone this lol....but it worked when I was in a pinch. :) Other than that, yeah, semi-flats is a good fix too...they just don't seem as bright or brilliant...so if you need that in a song, you may need to eq and compress a bit more than usual. Best of luck! -Danny

mmm interesting - but if it works !! I think part of the problem is the extreme dryness where I live. This is West Texas and we're having as you might have heard occassionally on the news, a major drought. My hands are like sand paper and probably need to use lotion a lot more than I do.

Re Danny's potato chip tip. Ansel Adams used to source a bit lube by rubbing the ball of his nose. He'd use it when he needed to finger squeegee a negative. The Potato Chips have a lot of salt and citric acid that will eat away at the nice metal work on a guitar. So. if the idea of finger grease works for you consider some fresh face grizzzle... it's usually less corrosive than a fast food smear. :-)

spacealf Maybe just a regular potato perhaps. (??) Never tried it. Hahaha....like I said, I don't condone it....but if you're in a pinch...whatever works. Just clean up your guitar really good after. Kinda the same as applying Crazy Glue to busted up fingers. It's not good to have that stuff in an open wound, but if you have to play, it can stop you from bagging out on a gig. :) -Danny

Speaking of crazy glue....I recently had a split on the end of my thumb that was taking way too long to close up - so I put "super-glue" on it. Stopped the hurt from pressure - and smoothed it over for playing without it catching on the strings! it healed well from the inside out. Then I heard that super glue was actually produced to use instead of stitches in some cases...

WD40 on a rag. Rub your finger tips just before you record.

I really don't have that problem, but I cook potato wedges and those leave something on your hand. Just take a paper towel and wipe off. It's I guess is like moisture but from a frozen potato wedge instead. Actually I don't use any stuff unless it is hand lotion and make sure it is all the way down in the skin. Well, potatoes wedges are getting done and must eat.
