Down For You-new song-is it finished or back to the drawing board?
The dilemma of the self produced song- do I need to do more work or is enough, enough. Out of the fire, and into the pan I've lost my desire for getting a tan I'm only human, to err is divine Maybe I'm crazy, but maybe I'm fine CHORUS: As long as you don't drive me insane I'll be there for you As long as you don't drive me away I'll go down for you I'm in for a penny, I'm in for a pound I'm raising my limits without making a sound Nothing can stop me, I've made up my mind The next time you see me I'll be easy to find CHORUS I'm old enough to know better I should have known from the start I follow this rule to the letter Everything comes from the heart I don't even know you, but I know you so well Without even trying I'm under your spell I'm willing to find you if you ever get lost I'll always be near you whatever the cost CHORUS Thanks for taking the time to listen and respond. I like it Lynn! The bass on the choruses sound just a little low volume wise on my system. IMHO, the keys on the chorus was overriding the vocals a little too and possibly a clipping issue as well. What a voice! The vocals a great! I'd go for a more relaxed feel on the lyrics even vocal fills. To me they sound too precise/planned on the recording. Thanks for the post!

Back to the drawing board, I'm afraid. There are a lot of things that are interesting, but I seriously have no idea what kind of song this is. The verses have a somewhat loopy islands feel, but then it goes all 80s techno guitar on the chorus. The hats are panned way too far right, as is the synth, leaving it a very unbalanced mix. But I think with a good editing job, this can be terrific. But most importantly, the mishmash of styles has to be sorted out.

Lynn, I think the style is interesting. It doesn't sound bad and other than that there is nothing wrong with doing something unconventional. to my ear I thin the song has good potential. The mix sounds a little off. (this is just my quick opinion) I would back off the vocal effect a hair (other than that, great voice) Back both the left and right synths a db or 2 and bring the drums up a little more as a whole. It's the drums that get people to "feel" the rythem that tends to get them moving and really rockin. The drums sound good but just set in the back more than I prefer. I am not sure I like some of the odd notes gong on in the choruses... but it seems to work so that is probably just a subjective thing. Nice over all. I think your headed in the right direction.

Thank you for your comments, however, this one's going back to the drawing board. I finally realized that after repeated listenings, I'm tired of this song. One of my litmus tests for judging my own work is how well does it hold up after hearing it over and over. I will give it a rest listen with fresh ears in a while. Your suggestions are well based. Thanks again.

That is an unusual sounding song Lynn, there are hints of The Cars or even The Fixx, but it is quite unique. As James said, there is a good track in here, but it needs some refining.

I don't get the "mish mash of styles" comment. I think everything gels very well. I do agree with all the comments on the mix. I would start over with it but map it out first then place things according to where you map it out. The only other thing is the bass drum could have more thump and the bass while you can hear it, you can't really feel it. Other than that, you've got a great song here! Nice!

I think you could do something with this, but I have to agree, I'm not up on the mis-match of styles, at least not this way.

I like this number! It is definitely out of the box a bit but I think that makes it very attractive. You have some great ideas in it. I am definitely not one to comment on any mix and you have received some good ideas above, but I hope that you don't give up on this one. Freddy J

Hi Lynn, The dilemma of the self produced song- do I need to do more work or is enough, enough. Boy, isn't that the truth! Used to be you knew you were done when your money ran out and they kicked you out of the studio Anyway, although this tune doesn't necessarily fall into some pre-defined category I like it and think the mix sounds fine.

Lynn, I get hints of Bowie on this IMO (your vox). Very creative and a good kind of different. I'd leave as is..sounds fine on this end of the pipe.
