ARC Question for Danny Danzi
Danny, In another thread, which I can't find here in Software, you made the following suggestion: This is 100% true but here's the thing. When you are in your recording environment, you WANT everything to have ARC on it. The fix is to run Winamp with a VST plugin add-on which will allow ARC to run through Winamp without having to ever turn it on again. That means...anything you play through Winamp will be ARC'd automatically. Your songs, pro CD's, anything that plays through your studio monitors. So you're covered there. Zo was kind enough to share this with me years ago. I always credit him for bailing me out here. Here's a link to the plug add-on you can run in Winamp: http://www.savioursofsoul.de/Christian/programs/winamp/ I've tried to figure this out, but there's little or no information posted. Can I assume the add-on to Winamp is 32-bit? Therefore, should I be installing for the 32-bit version of Winamp for compatibility? Right now, I've only got the 64-bit version of ARC installed. Do you have a recommendation? Should I install the 32-bit version as well, or will that lead to problems elsewhere? What about jbbridge? Would that be preferred. You probably hold some kind of record for number of ARC installs, so I expect you'll have some good advice, for which I thank you profusely in advance.

I'm not Danny, but I have done this procedure. I did nothing fancy, and I also run Sonar 64 and ARC 64. I simply downloaded Winamp, downloaded the vst bridge from the link, then follow the instructions for having ARC be the VST running under Winamp (I think I googled this. It is under the winamp options or something). Took a grand total of 5 min. Took much longer for Winamp to import my library of music..... I sort of got the impression that the bridge thing that makes VSTs work in Winamp might be a bit like Bitbridgte or Jbridge in that it will make any VST work. Not sure if that is true or not, but it appears to be working for me. Hope this helps.

I'll report back on success or failure when I do.

I don't use Winamp - Does winamp stand in-between Sonar and your audio device? So instead of connecting Sonar directly to your audio device, you connect sonar to Winamp?

I think Winamp replaces Windows Media Player for Wav mp3 etc playback. T

DeeringAmps I think Winamp replaces Windows Media Player for Wav mp3 etc playback. T Yes you simply set the file preference for mp3 (and/or WAV) on you system to run winamp (with the vst wrapper) and all your "outside of SONAR" plays will be ARC'd.

Winamp is (as I understand it ... haven't downloaded it yet) an alternative to Windows Media Player. Sonar doesn't come into the picture at all. What we're talking about here is having Winamp directly reading the CD data and sending the signal through a VST before routing it to the sound card.

This is a pretty cool ARC trick I'll have to try out now!

dmbaer I'll report back on success or failure when I do. And here's the report. First of all, I'm delighted to report success. But I achieved it with foobar2000, not Winamp. I got the 32-bit dll for ARC place on the machine (more on that in a moment). I could not get Winamp to let me add that VST no matter what I tried. Previously it did load the 64-bit ARC dll, but that (not surprisingly) didn't do anything. It just sat there with no activity shown in the meters and no response when trying to turn it on/off. I installed foobar and the VST add-on. With very little effort I found how to add the effect and it worked flawlessly. Bit sigh of relief. Now, as to the 32-bit ARC dll. I had previously installed only the 64-bit ARC on my DAW. I was very reluctant to do another install lest I have to go through the frustration of using the IK registration process again. I had an inspriation, though. I installed ARC on an old computer (32-bit XP), copied the dll and uninstalled. I placed the 32-bit ARC dll on my DAW in a folder off the beaten track (and out of the VST scan list), added it to foobar, and bingo! My existing ARC (64-bit in Sonar) worked as it had before and no additional registration was required. Sweet!
