sound card problem help

Friend installed MC3 on his HP Pavillion entertainment PC for Windows 7. It seemed to install correctly and i was checking the settings against my pc settings, but there is no option in audio settings to check a sound card. I have Sigma Tel, but in the space where his sound card should be it just says none? So no sounds are heard. Any ideas?

    Hi Horus2,
MC3 is a fairly old version of the software and isn't supported on Win7 platforms. That being said, I'm still using MC4 on my XP system so I am not familiar with MC3 but If you stay tuned, there are others here who have used MC3 and can probably help you a bit further.  I would strongly suggest purchasing MC6 which is supported in Win7 and comes with many new functions and features.

In MC4 under the audio options tab there is a driver mode selection. With stock soundcards as you are attempting to run, the MME option for the driver mode is usually the selection that works. See if MC3 has a similar selection.

    MC4 - M-Audio FW410 / Behringer UCA202 - Fender Strat / Jazzmaster / DuoSonic / Washburn / Peavy Foundation M-Audio Radium 49 Roland Juno 106 / JazzChorus / Seymore Duncan Convertible - HP A1230N ( AMD Athalon 3800+ 2G Ram + 200G HD )

we have seen some users not be able to get their soundcards to work in MC3 on Win7 or Vista machines.  MC3 was long before vista was ever released, let along win7, so it's not necessarily compatible.

try changing to MME driver mode and running the wave profiler like Tap said and see if that works.

or.... buy MC6. very affordable, it's W7 compatible, and has lots of cool things in it that MC3 doesn't.

If he got MC6 could he just use my mixer like I do or would he have to use MME or external sound card?

The same rules apply with interfaces and drivers regardless of the version of MC being used.

Just because MC6 is W7 compatible doesn't mean you should not use an external interface and ASIO drivers.

Yes you would want to go USB external with ASIO for the best results.
