in desperate need of help...triggering fantom x sounds in sonar essential

Hi guys, I am a complete newbie when it comes to midi recording. I just purchased sonar x1 essential so I could track out my songs from my fantom x6 into sonar. I am using M-Audio Fast Track Pro interface. I am asking if someone can give me a step by step guide on how to record sounds from my fantom to sonar. I'm am needing to know what I need to enable/disable inside the fantom, what channel input/outputs need to be selected inside of sonar, etc. Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Isaac

The best thing you can do is have a look through the MIDI tutorials in the manual.

That said to record MIDI into Sonar you need to set the input on the MIDI track to the Fantom. Remember though MIDI is data not 'sound'.

To get the data to play the Fantom you need to set the Output of the MIDI track to the fantom, you'll then hear sound from that.

To record the sound from the fantom (not the MIDI) you'll need to hook up the audio outs of the fantom to your audio interface and then record that onto an audio track. Done by selecting the relative audio input on an audio track.

It will also be beneficial to turn 'local' off on the fantom if your ar playing back sounds from a MIDI track or you may well get some phasey sounds as the local and MIDI trigger the same sound at the same time.

A good read of the tutorials will explain the concept better than I have here though.
