Soundtracking to DVD

Hopefully somebody can help me, because I'm being driven mad by my dilemma...

Years ago i started writing a soundtrack to a BW movie. I was using video with a time code on the audio track and, although it wandered a bit, I had some fun with it.

Now, after about 8 years away from recording, I'm desperate to finish the project. I have the DVD of the movie, i have Sonar X1, and I have more tools and tricks at my disposal than i could have ever of dreamt of 10 years ago!

What I can't figure out is how I sync up to the movie! I don't have (or want) a video player anymore, and I'm always sceptical about on line 'rippers' for DVD (the thought of putting my credit card number in or downloading some terrible virus).

So, what do i do? How do i satisfy my urge?

(BTW, The projects just for fun - no commercial purpose)

First you need to get the movie off the DVD and into a format that Sonar likes. If you've never done it, it's a topic unto itself. Start here: http://www.myce.com/artic...ying---The-basics-207/ It's an old article but still relevant.

File formats that Sonar likes are .avi with the mjpeg or DV codec, mpeg-1, .wmv. If you are running Sonar 32-bit and have Quicktime installed, then you can use .mp4 files with the assorted mpeg-4 or h264 codecs. If you don't understand that stuff, start here: http://www.pcworld.com/ar...cs_and_containers.html
