First Studio Project and Introduction - Call Me by Blondie (metal cover)
Hi everyone...a noob that is a little nervous about putting up my work in progress, but here it goes. Some background about me...I started playing the organ and piano when I was seven, and switched to drums throughout Jr and Sr. high school. Played drums and some keys in a gigging rock band during and after high school (mid-late 80's), then pretty much dropped music to get a job/go to college/move out of the folks place/etc. etc. Now, 25+ years later, I'm back into it again. Two years ago, I started taking guitar lessons, and having a blast with it. Time to put those lessons to work. The song: I wanted to do a cover so I could concentrate on learning the software. I thought it would be fun to do a metal version of an 80's new wave song, and ended up with the Blondie track, but you'll need to fill in the vocals yourself for now :) http://www.soundcloud.com/itsdigital/call-n-me If any female vocalists want to belt out the lyrics for me...let me know. I don't have any friends that can do it lol, and would be happy to trade some collaboration. Thanks for listening...any and all comments and suggestions are welcome!

Jeff, Interesting interpretation but it works, I get it. Find the right singer and it will be a super cool production. Nice playing and good mix. Regards

Welcome Jeff to the songs forum. That's some cool sounds you've got going on there. I could see Julibee (here on the forums doing this one). You'll never know until you ask. PM her.

markno999 - Thanks for listening and the positive comments on the mix and my playing...it means a lot after hearing your work! Metal is a new genre for me, so it was quite an experience, coming from VH, Ozzie, Led Zepplin, AC/DC, etc., especially covering a quasi-disco song with it. bapu - Thanks much...I really appreciate the tip and the listen! Drums are a custom kit I built in Battery 3, guitars laid down with my Schecter C-1+ (drop D, that was convenient of Blondie), rhythm double tracked through GTR3.5 and lead (single) through GR5 Pro. Ibanez bass and Alvarez electric/acoustic (direct) also through GTR3.5. Wavestation for the synth lead and a splash of Dimension during the bridge.

I listened to this on the notebook (sorry :-( ) And it sounds like you've got the skills... Good job. I don't really do this style, but it sounds like you've got it down cold.
All you need is love, just ask the Beatles? ----------

Thanks for the listen Robby...somewhat of a new style for me too lol. Excellent vocal work covering Bruce and Diamond Dave BTW...about the best I've heard so far! Too bad you can't sing like Debbie Harry...or maybe you are that versatile and we don't know it yet. If so, let me know :)

This is great, especially for one of your first ones. Nothing to be ashamed of here. As much as I'd dearly love to belt out lyrics, I simply can't. :( But I wouldn't be surprised if Robby could pull this off. :)

Those guitar lessons are paying off. Your performance is top notch, and the mix is well done, though, I thought the splash cymbal in the right channel could have come down a db or two. That's just a matter of taste. Everything else sounds just about right. I hope you find a singer for this, but if not, you've still done a fine job of learning the software.

Janet - Thanks a lot for taking the time to listen and comment. I greatly appreciate it...I have a couple of leads on the vocals, hopefully it'll pan out. Otherwise, I need to stick to doing instrumentals lol Lynn - I have a great instructor that I drive over 60 miles (each way), every week, to learn from. For me, it was the best and quickest way to become proficient. I'm not getting any younger! Thanks for the listen and comments...I did struggle with the cymbals a bit, especially with the conversion to MP3. My studio is a temporary set up in the basement right now...less than an ideal environment, so checking it out on all the systems I could (laptop, hi-fi, car(s), desktop computer, cans, studio monitors) really helped a bunch! I'll try pulling the splash down a bit and see how it sounds. I'm looking forward to putting more stuff out there soon! \m/
