Session Drummer No Sound Please Help

Session Drummer is not giving me any sound. I have a drum kit loaded but cannot figure out how to make sure its routed properly. Playback audio works. Do you have to route soft synths some other way?

Thanks a million for your help.

I find the best way to make sure everything is routed correctly is to load softsynths from the "browser synthrack" tab of the browser or from the SONAR Toolbar (at top left of SONAR) by going to Insert>Softsynth.

How about trying to use one of those ways and see if you have sound after you load a kit?

Yes you do need to make sure it's routed correctly. As thomasbarnes has said the easiest way is to drag it from the browser and make sure the create audio & MIDI tracks are checked. That will sort the routing out for you. Also make sure you have a kit loaded which is done from the main page.

To get more info on setting up MIDI and softsynths see the tutorials in the manual and have a look at my latest video MIDI for beginners which explains the basics of routing.

    OK, no luck.

I do not even see the volume bar moving when I hit a drum.

The other issue I am having that may be related is when I play loopmasters everything works fine. When I try to play files from the midi folder nothing happens. Are these just for output to a controller?

Thanks a million for your assistance. The tutorial videos are very good, but just haven't found one that will solve this yet!

Hard to say if they must be routed another way, because we don't have any idea how you have routed them.
You can not record the drums hitting them in the VST interface view.
How exactly are you trying to use Session Drummer? Have you done the turorials about using soft synths?

You need the MIDI on a MIDI-track, routed to the soft synth and an audio track, with input from soft synth. Using simple instrument tracks those are "bundled".

Do you mean the SONARs own MIDI-loops don't work, but Loopmasters loops do? Could you have some Drum Map in use?

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

If you have SD3 loaded you should have at least one audio track that has it's input set to Session Drummer 1 Out (mono) or Sesssion Drummer 1 Out/Session Drummer 2 Out (Stereo). That same audio track needs it output to be set to your master buss (or a buss that eventually gets to your main outs).

Then go to Session Drummers mixer view and check that all your drum outs are assigned to channel 1 (at the bottom of the mixer view)

Make sure you have a drum kit loaded.

If you do all that and click on a drum graphic in SD3 you should hear the drum hit.

Get that right before starting with any alternative routings such as a drum per audio track or even a source MIDI track.
