Audio Driver failure

Sometimes when I close sonar and re-open it I will hear a system beep notifying me there is no audio driver present. The only way of fixing this (that i know of) is restarting the computer. If I check in the preferences I do not see my sound card listed. I know you can't have any mp3/windows media or anything like that on when opening Sonar cause this will usually happen but this is not the case but acts in the same manner.

Is their a way of resetting the audio driver other than rebooting when this happens? Or is there something I can do to stop this from happening.

Check if the Windows Audio service is running. Also see if your interface may be intermittently losing power.

My experience has been that if the driver unloads or stops responding, that a reboot is the only way to bring it back. However, I am running XP on my DAW; I would hope that Win7 is more sophisticated than that.

Another possibility is a problem with the USB port. Go into Device Manager and make sure the option to allow powering down the USB hub has been disabled.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Thanks for your advice, I tried everything you mentioned and everything seems to look good. Thanks for the info on disabling the usb to power down, I never knew about that. Another thing I was reading is possibly my Sample rate of the project and sound card are different. I have yet to look into this but will give it a shot.

I doubt the sample rate has anything to do with it. If SONAR can't see the interface, that means Windows can't see the interface. If Windows doesn't see it, then something is preventing the interface from joining the party. The interface could be losing its connection due to an intermittent USB port on either end, or could be losing power (or have a defective power supply), or the driver may be failing due to a programming bug. (Check your Windows event log; a driver crash should leave an entry there.)

I had a simillar problem with my firewire interface, and someone on here suggested un-installing and re-installing my interface drivers, as they may have become corrupted.

I did and everything is fine now.

I don't know if this is the same for you, but it worked a treat for me, so I'm just passing it on.
