Finally took the dive (Installed X1)

At least now I know what everyone was talking about in May of 2011 :)  Since they made SX1 Expanded so cheap, and my calendar is quiet,  I decided to load it up and test drive it.  My first impression was that it has kind of a "Fisher Price" look to it, and I don't like the drab colors.  I also have a four monitor system, so the Multi Dock does not get used.

Does anyone know how to get rid of it completely?  It's taking up space.

My thoughts are kind of random at this point, so sorry if you are taking the time to read this...

I also wondered why the compressor was obscured in the Pro Channel, and why you can't make that dialog bigger if you float it to another monitor.  If they could replace the whole thing with Ozone, they would really have something.  I'm spoiled, I guess.  I have gotten so used to a compressor that gives visual feedback of the degree of compresion, where the signal is to begin with, etc. that I don't know why anyone would do it differently.

Has anyone noticed that the screen refresh does not work well if you float the Console View to another monitor?  The bottom 1/3 of the graphics just kind of get stuck, and prevail over top of anything on that monitor.

The "fit project to window" does not always work either.  If I expand the height of a track, then do the "fit" function, the expanded track stays expanded.  I do like the track height memory though, so you can minimize the height, then bounce back to what it was before.

I use my rig as a recording studio, so a lot of the Matrix view stuff goes unused.  I do some composition, so maybe I will try to find value in it.

Basically, I just pretty much despise figuring out new ways to do the same tasks that I knew extremely well how to do in the first place...  It's a bit depressing. Kind of like my reaction to MS Office 2007, and the "ribbon menu" yechhhhhhhh.  Same functionality, different button hiding in a different place.

My last observation:  It white-screened on me four times in the space of two hours...  I learned not to click too fast on the dialog header menus.  But, Just like MS Office 2007 it ain't gonna change just for the likes of me, so I'm sure I will get used to it.

You can undock the MultiDock and minimize it to tuck it away into the corner of the screen or I believe Ben Stat's Sonar Plus utility will hide it completely.

I'm in agreement with many of your comments as well.  I'd love to see input levels in the compressor and also an option to view a spectral analysis on the EQ in Prochannel.  Also, I'm not crazy about the color scheme either. . . "drab" is a good word.

I didn't quite understand your comment about "Fit Project to Window".  'F' adjusts the track heights to fit all of them vertically.  'Shift+F' fits the whole project in the track view.  Works very well for me. . .

Poco, you should check out Panup's Mods.....it has done wonders to the "drabby" original X1 look and these certainly did enhance my X1 experience.

If you are using multiple monitors and floating a CV on one why not just open the CV in the multidock and float that, there's hardly any difference between a floated CV and a CV in a floated multidock. Other than you can use the multidock for er...multiple views.

See my multidock video for more ideas.

LOL - I have a three monitor system and I wish there was more than one multidock, very versatile. It's revamped the way I work in PRVs completely.

I really like the new color scheme... IMHO it's easy on the eyes, workflow is logical, and looks professional versus the cartoon look of many daws including previous versions of sonar.

no, you are not the only one. I like it too. You, me and musicroom...that is 3.
But I still want to be able to change some of the colors...

Thing is though, I know I'm wrong, I've already been told off by the head boy. In the meantime I carry on getting loads done with the wrong setup.
