Upgraded to X1 - numerous bugs
Hi guys! I've just upgraded to X1 with all updates and am having numerous problems. Sometimes I just can't get a plugin to come up when I'm clicking on it. I can insert the same plugin on a different track and it might work. Also, plugin automation (tested with various plugs including Sonitus) may or may not work. When it does work, there is often no visual response from the plugin upon playback (although clicking through the timeline, you can see the controls move). What's going on? I've never had any problems before with 8.5. 64 bit, windows 7.

Edit; Thought I'd check - the last problem I spoke of (visual response of automation playback) is now an issue in 8.5 too. I should confirm that automation of the console volume etc. is no problem - just plugins.

which plugins? 32bit or 64bit X1? 32bit or 64bit plugins? (i.e. are you using bitbridge) how are you inserting them? via the browser? right clicking in FX bin?

Any and all. Guitar Rig and Sonitus Delay, both 64, were the ones I tried most with but it happens with any. Right clicking in the Bin.

have you updated X1 to the latest version? X1C is the latest release update and there's a quickfix release build available after that.

Yeah I downloaded all of those. The only thing I did not successfully install was the Additional Content, but I doubt that would matter. It said there was not a valid install of Dimension Pro and would not continue. I was not fussed as I don't use DP. However, I did download the newest DP and it is updated and working. Really strikes me as odd that I suddenly have the visual response bug in 8.5 too.

I've just tried some more and have had a sudden roll of starting several projects with no issues. I'll keep going and post back if it happens again. I didn't install the 32 bit - Will have to download the installer again to do that and let you know. It's a 2 year old laptop from ADK. Dual core i5, 8GB RAM.

you shouldn't have to download the installer again unless you deleted it from the installation of 64bit. it's the same one.

Could I have found the cause? My testing had been random - opening up 8.5 or X1, new project or previous projects. I have realised, and now confirmed by testing over 10 times, that the problem was only occuring on tracks that DID NOT CONTAIN AUDIO. I.e. the new projects I had created, and any empty tracks I happened to place plugs on in previous projects. On the new projects, I dragged in some loops and voila. Deleted them, and visual response is gone. I guess this is some kind of CPU saving procedure that I simply haven't noticed before (afterall, why would I have?) I only noticed this time round due to testing Sonars new automation insertion method in a blank project. Solved. --------- Still doesn't explain the initial problem I had of plugins not appearing and refusing to come up when double clicked. However, that hasn't happened since I made this thread.

Ethereal: although 8.5 ran fine I advise you to update video drivers and motherboard chipset drivers, it wont fix x-1 issues but... the program will perform better !!

I have realised, and now confirmed by testing over 10 times, that the problem was only occuring on tracks that DID NOT CONTAIN AUDIO Interesting... I actually have seen this with Pro Channel envelopes but never tried with VSTs in the FX Bin. I just figured it was an efficiency thing in the PC design but perhaps they've taken the concept over to other areas too. I wonder if the same thing happens to MIDI tracks without any MIDI data... Or instrument tracks...

Good luck! Hopefully once you "settle in" with it, you'll find X1 to be a great upgrade as many of us have.

I wouldn't expect a visual of automation for a plug-in that is on a track that no longer has data/audio. There's nothing there to process (nothing flowing through the track parameters,) so in my mind, how in the heck can there be any visual of automation. Seems wierd to expect that, to me. :( I think this is normal. I think it's as designed.

I would think automation would happen regardless of whether there is signal. If the automation envelope is still there, and clicking through the track changes values, and it only doesn't automate in realtime, that seems strange to me. What about input monitoring? If you delete all data in a track, but turn on input monitoring, does the automation work on playback, in realtime? This would be something to try.

^ Yeah, it makes sense to me for it to be there - the turning of a dial has nothing to do with audio being present. However it does also make sense that they included this feature for CPU - no complaints! Yes Savagery, input monitoring sorts it. When you asked that I got a bit worried as I realised that is soon to become quite a part of my workflow, haha! I am from Southend in Essex, but currently in High Wycombe.
