Cascade Microphones opinions

Hey all,
I am thinking about picking up a pair of Cascade Mics Fathead II Blumlein mics http://www.cascademicrophones.com/cascade_FAT_HEAD_II_Stereo_PK.html. Does anyone have experience with these?  If so, how much of a difference does it make to upgrade to a Lundahl transformer?  The price is tempting.  Thanks!

We'll not risk another frontal assault-that rabbit's dynamite!!!

Hi there I have a pair of these with Lundahls which I like. Unfortunately, I can't tell you if the Lundahl upgrade is better than the stock versions as I don't have both. It is a fairly significant jump in price to go with the upgrade. More than 80% on top of the cost of a stock one. Hell...if you doubled the price of a Lundahl one, you're in Royer 121 territory. I've read just one or two threads on gearslutz where people have preferred the stock ones over the Lundahl upgraded variety. I think it boils down to the fact that some mics are better on some sources than others and that the stock may dazzle you one some sources that the Lundahl ones won't and vice versa. An answer from someone who has both mics, or who has a sound knowledge of the effect various qualities of transformers can have on mics would be more useful to you. I guess you need to do some thinking. Are you in the market for a cheap ribbon or a not a so cheap one? Are you likely to always wonder what the dearer ones would have given you? Hope this helps Stewart

I see the forum has completely ignored my paragraphing again. Is there an issue with the forum's formatting just now?
