Cold Comfort - what next? -remixed
Here's a song that I started last summer then put aside. I just heard it for the first time in months, and I'm not quite sure what to think of it. I would welcome any thoughts and opinions about this. I thank you for taking the time to listen and respond. Singing harmonies are great, and the song overall sound fine. Perhaps a little more work with the drums because only at the end with the organ playing did the drums sound better to me at that point, but still could use more work with the volumes between the cymbals, snare drums and bass drum.

This really sounds good to me... outstanding vocals... If it were mine, I'd clone the rhythm guitar track and pan it right... then nudge it just a bit in time... or better yet, play and record the part again and pan it right... good song... well done...

Nice song. I like the harmonies that start around 2:00. The bass plays a great part in this song. It does a nice job of tying elements together with the fills (adds interest also).
I might brighten the organ around the 1:20 mark.
Overall mix is well done I think.

What a nice surprise. I really like this. Is that you singing?
Nice job writing. I'm glad you went back and pulled this gem out of the hard drive.
Just my 2 cents on the mix..... I'd record that acoustic again and pan it about 80% so you have one left and one right..... Frank also mentioned that..... it will make the guitar sound fat. I've been doing that a lot recently.

Hey Lynn good job with this song , the snare and bass drum could be raised a bit . There is also panned in my right ear that sounds alittle out of place , sounds like guitar . Might help is you balance that out a bit , overall I liked the song and the way it was written and sung . Good one ! Radio

Sounds really good overall. I agree with Frank re the guitar panning and I would maybe bring the snare up a bit and push the high hat slightly back ( though bringing the snare up may sort that one out anyway).

Nice one Lynn.
I love the flow of it and the mix is really good. Agree with the accoustic comments above. I especially like the bass line. I like to do that when I play the bass.

To all of you, thanks so much for your comments. The suggestion about panning the acoustic guitar are right on, and I originally thought of that, but at the time I was going with the "less is more" theory. Sometimes more is more. I also agree that the drums could come up in places. Not being a drummer, that is where I usually need the most help. I believe that I have a little mixing to do. I will try to repost this song as soon as I can. Your comments are always inspiring.

I like your song Lynn, I would effect that guitar that sounds like a sitar less. And just have a lead guitar. And pull it back a little, it seems to be fighting with the vox throughout.

To Scott, Eric, James, and Kev, thanks for your kind words. I believe the advice that I got from my fellow forum members really paid off. I was kind of down on this song last summer, but now I like it again. When you work alone it's invaluable to have as many extra ears as you can get. Having all of you listen on your different playback systems can't be beat. I have a few other songs that could use some extra ears so be on the lookout.

Pretty awesome indeed ... on many levels ... rock, message, mix, balance, listenability, etc.
I especially love your instrument balance in this ... the organ rocks, drums sit well, vocs are stellar.
