should I buy m-audio midisport 2x2 or cakewalk um-3g?

I am just starting to dive into the midi world. I need to buy something to use with Sonar X1 Producer. midi gear: Roland FP 8 and a Pintech E-kit(I think it the Road Pro Series, it has EZv2 brain). I'm just looking to use these 2 devises as midi controllers don't need the sounds built in to them. Sooooo...should I buy m-audio midisport 2x2 or cakewalk um-3g? obviously the um-3g gives me room to grow with 3 instead of 2 but which performs better? Even though this is a cakewalk forum please be unbiased. extra info: I'm mostly interested in using the roland for SI piano, SI strings, z3ta, and pintech kit with superior drummer 2. also I have a really bad latency problem with my Alesis multimix 8 usb so latency is a major concern.

processor intel core 2; ram 3.0GB; system 32-bit; windows 7 ultimate; Alesis Multimix 8 USB 2.0; Sonar X1 Producer; Superior Drummer 2.0

If the midisport 2x2 has Windows 7 x64 drivers anything like my (admittedly old 4x4) I would avoid it like the plague.

Of course they could be completely different beasts in which case feel free to ignore me.

I had the Midisport 4x4 and got rid of it after waiting months and months for driver support for Vista/Windows 7.  It was also very unreliable if I used a long-ish USB cable.

I bought a Roland um-3ex (looks the same as the 3g) and have never looked back.  Rock solid, works on every version of windows and seems to lock in tight with my MOTU audio gear.

Maybe you don't even need to buy an adapter, depending on connectivity of the controllers.  If one of them has both MIDI IN and USB OUT, then this controller can function as an adapter for another controller.

Another thumbs down for the MidiSport. It was so flakely I put it on a shelf and don't even know where it is anymore. I don't have any experience with the Roland/Cakewalk so I can't comment on that.

Don't fix it in the mix ... Fix it in the take!

i have the midisport 2x2 and it does have drivers for both 32 &64,i use it in a 64 bit enviorment.
for the little it cost its way worth it.
ive never once had an issue with it.
could be the only piece of equipment ive never had to fuss with.
at first i though i just wasted my money.
its all i use for midi now.

+1  I'm not sure why there are conflicting views on the Midisport 4x4. I have used mine both in the studio and live with zero issues... apparently not everyone has had our experience.

+1 on the Midisport. I have had a 2x2 for years - with different computers - and I have had zero issues. It is solid and dependable!
