Sonar 4 Driver Errors - I hope this helps

Ever since I installed the Sonar upgrade (Sonar 4 Producer) I have been having driver issues. My hardware did not work and the Audio profiler would not run. (I was trying to profile a MOTU 828mkII)

ASIO drivers would not profile the card, but projects would play. When attempting to profile the hardware ASIO, an error message displayed. It was a Motu driver error 32.

I then tried the WDM/KS drivers and NOTHING happened. No playback of any projects. BUT.... the WAVE profile did run on the hardware.

lastly, I tried the MME drivers. Still no luck.

I installed the new MOTU drivers, I rebooted Windows XP SP2 many times. I even reinstalled Sonar 2 more times.

Completely fustrated, I called Cakewalk Tech Support. I know, I know. Why didn't you call them sooner? I try to do-it-yourself first so I know what works, what does not and how to re-create a problem.

After 30 minutes on the phone with a very patient tech person (I wished I had remembered his name), he was able to find the problem. Apparently there was a Roland VSC Output Driver displaying in the Output Srivers list. He told me that there were times when the Roland VSC caused problems with Sonar 4. I uninstalled the Roland VSC and everything worked.

I just wanted to pass along my anguish to anyone who may have this same scenario. Apparently, this beast is a known issue and is easily remedied. I hope this helps someone at some point in the future.
