Antares Auto Tune 7 - UGH!

I installed AT7, Friday and I'm getting droputs with it on a voice track.  There's not much in the AT7 manual about problems.  I have Auto Tune EFX and that does not drop out.

Any suggestions?

I only use Autotune EFX for when someone demands it ("the" effect).  I use Melodyne for all serious pitch tweaking.  But, like you, EFX has never caused me any problems either.

Well, I tested it in Pro Tools MP9 (with the RTAS version) and there are no dropouts!

Something not set right in Sonar? or a problem with their VST?

I posted on the Antares forum and I'll see what they have to say about it.

I have Sonar 64 bit installed.  Using Sonar 32 bit is not an option for me.   Although Pro Tools is still only 32 bit and maybe that is the answer?

I finally heard from Antares support.  They told me to up the buffer to 1024 as that would stop the dropouts, it didn't work.  Then they told me to install Sonar 32 bit as the Antares is not 64 bit, and I refuse to do that - the software must be compatible with my system, not that my system must be changed to be compatible with the software.  I'm in a hassle with them now trying to get a refund.

JBridge may work, but why should I buy another piece of software to make something I bought that is supposed to work, work?

Jack - I agree with you. I wasn't sure if you might have had JBridge already, in which case it's pretty simple to switch between that and Bitbridge. As an early adopter of x64, I bought JBridge to give me a few more options with problematic plugs. Honestly, over the years, there have been less and less of those as Cake's Bitbridge has improved.
I think from the sound of this it does sound like an Autotune problem - and I agree that if they are selling a 64 bit plug it should work.

I've heard from Antares and they are going to issue a refund after the iLok license is deleted.  However they screwed up and put in the deletion for the wrong Antares Product.  I'm waiting for them to fix their mistake.  I have Antares Auto Tune EFX, which works OK and the Auto Tune 7 which does not work with Sonar 64 bit.   (It does work OK with Pro Tools MP9 as Pro Tools is still 32 bit (I've been told Pro Tools 11 will be 64 bit) but I'm not going to move a voice track over to Pro Tools to run Autotune then bring it back to Sonar).

I've downloaded a trial version of Melodyne.  I'll try it out tomorrow as I have a CD project I'm just about ready to start mixing down (10 songs for a local Singer).

The Antares Autotune 7 saga is over.  They sent me a receipt for a refund that was processed.  I'll give them a plus for the way they handled the refund request.

The beat goes on, I downloaded the Melodyne 30 day trial version and installed the 64 bit VST's and the RTAS.  The VST's do not show up in Sonar.  I did a VST scan and nothing.  I found the Celemony folder and there appears to be a standalone application, but that's all.

That's what I thought would be required.  But, why install the VST's?

I've uninstalled the 30 day trial melodyne.

Firebird the 64bit Melodyne VST is installed in a weird location initially. Look for Melodyne.dll and move it to your "common" vst folder and rescan. It took me awhile to figure that one out.

I've never used AutoTune but Melodyne is killer at tuning, IMHO. I one recorded a bass track where my bass was slightly out of tune. Ya, I could have re-tuned and re-recorded but for fun I ran it through Melodyne. Done and done.

Fair warning; if you need to do a lot of edits in one take, use the single track (i.e. standalone) version. There is still a problem in 64bit occasionally crashing when you do too many edits. Alternativey, edit and bounce to clip frequently.

I'll wait.  I don't do a lot of "retuning".  The AutoTune 7 was at a reduced "upgrade" price and I bit on it.  It's not 64 bit compatible and maybe why they offered a bargain price, they could be ready to announce a new fully 64 bit compatible version.

Melodyne is out of my current price range, except for the "essential" version, which was what I downloaded.  I hate software that requires "jumping through hoops" to get it working, such as the Melodyne not installing in the VST folder.  It's probably my computer background - I worked as a NASA programmer back in the Apollo program and then 23 years as a LAN/WAN Network Manager (until I retired).

V-Vocal actually gets the job done! I use it when I have no other option... but I can't live without EFX/Auto-Tune.
