Recommended track EQs?
I have what comes with PE 8.5, and PSP Mixpack, Ozone4, Melda Creative Bundle and a moderate amount of free stuff from Voxengo, the late Kjaerhus and the likes. The only thing I think I'm actually missing is a decent (Linear Phase?) graphical equaliser, that would be suitable for per-track use and able of quite accurate complimentary EQing. It should be CPU-friendly to be usable on tracks, as my PC isn't that swift, and graphical, because I think I need the visual info, too, to be able to be consistant in my doings. If the CPU consumption wasn't an issue for per-track-use I'd settle with Ozones EQ. The price range could be €100+ / 150$. Recommendations? Or is there maybe something in 8.5 that could do (I just recently installed it, and perhaps there's something I haven't noticed :o) ?
SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre - Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc. The benefit of being a middle aged amateur is the low number of years of frustration ahead of you.

Kalle Rantaaho That looks promising. Somehow I've understood this T-Rack package is mainly for mastering, and that has lead me to assume they're not CPU friendly. Am I wrong in this assumption? I sometimes run a few of them in a mix w/o a problem. As a matter of fact, I don't do mastering so I only use them in that context. That being said, the minute you start using LP EQs, you'll be using more resources - they are not the lightest on the CPU. T-Racks LP gives you the option to enable/disable linear phase and oversampling. So you can toggle between both modes. I'm not sure I'd use them (LP EQ) on every track though, furthermore considering that in most cases, track EQ consists in hi pass and maybe a dip here and there.

The per-track EQ's seem to cover the pass filtering and subtractive EQing pretty well for mixing. Tom

Try IIEQPro for a track eq : http://www.ddmf.eu/product.php?id=0 And LP10 as a liner phase master bus eq : http://www.ddmf.eu/product.php?id=1 For more expensive options, look at DMG Equality & EQuick : http://dmgaudio.com/products_equality.php http://dmgaudio.com/products_equick.php Can be bought together as a bundle for £125 Or Fabfliter Pro-Q, which can run in either zero latency or linear phase mode : http://www.fabfilter.com/products/pro-q.php Fully functioning demo for 30 days as well.

I like the EQ in Pro Channel. As a per track EQ it does a decent job and it would not be that expensive to upgrade to that from 8.5 JMO. Of course those other EQs are nice too,so its basically your call. The nice thing is that a lot of those will let you try before you buy.

Since ba_midi first turned me on to Pro-Q a couple years ago, I don't use anything else on tracks. I still prefer Ozone on the master bus. Pro-Q is lightweight enough to have dozens of instances going. If they'd just add a critical band option to the spectral display I'd be able to retire Ozone. (BTW, if you're buying your first FabFilter product, be sure to let an existing user refer you. You'll get a 10% discount, and the referrer gets a $14 store credit. I have Pro-L today because of the kindness of strangers who let me refer them.)

+1000 to what Bit says above. I've said it before and I'm likely to say it eleventy jillion more times. If one were to own the entire line of FabFilter...but escpecially the Pro series...you really wouldn't need any other matching plugs. If you can't do it with ProQ, ProC, ProL and ProG...you have a serious lack of skills. Cause you shore as heck got the tools.

+1001 to what yoropal and bitflipper say. Fabfilter is AAA+ quality, totally pro quality. I got the Pro bundle and do not regret it, but don't expect a lot of presets--they expect you to know what you are doing with an eq and it sounds like you already do. They have demo's --give them a try. I might also recommend the Softube Mix Bundle which has three eq's in it (plus TSAR lite and a great FET compressor). I just got it yesterday and suspect I will be using it frequently just because it is so convenient in the prochannel, but it requires ILok2. It has received very good reviews; see this thread: http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2491942 But absolutely try the Fabfilter Pro-Q. No question about it--it is just great.

The only thing I think I'm actually missing is a decent (Linear Phase?) graphical equaliser, that would be suitable for per-track use and able of quite accurate complimentary EQing. Rain brought up some good points. Linear Phase EQ has some down sides (used as a track insert EQ) Higher CPU use, additional Latency, etc. Personally, I'd rather my channel insert EQs have a little more character. I'm particularly fond of SSL Channel strip... and Pultec style EQs. This combination sounds great... and is extremely versatile. IOW, Linear Phase doesn't necessarily equate to sounding better.

Someone on these boards was talking about Plugin Alliance and another was talking about Pensado's Place. Pensado was talking about Maag EQ4- which Plugin Alliance has actually just released as a VST. It's not a graphical equaliser and even at the introductory price ($179 until March 3) is slightly outside your stated budget but apparently it is pretty awesome. Nice colors also!

For coolness UI factor, Fabfilter Pro-Q is my latest go to. UI is Sonitus on steroids. I cannot speak to it being better than any other though. I can say it works.
