Help with special adapter!

My headphones are USB.
My M-Audio jacks are 1/4".

I've seen a lot of 1/4" to USB adapter, but not a single USB to 1/4".

Where can I get such a beast??? This is my only means of previewing as I do not have powered monitors and I cannot stand the delay when recording using ASIO, but monitoring using the USB headphones connected to the comp itself. Halp!!!

A google search doesn't turn up anything like what you need.  Unless you have some high $$ headphones, your best bet is to buy a regular headset that has the 1/4" stereo plug (many come with a 1/8" stereo plug and an adapter for 1/4" stereo).

Right. That's what I feared. I am not sure I can talk the wife into letting me get a normal headset. Thanks though.

So let me ask a SONAR specific question...

Is there anyway to reduce the lag between the m-audio and the comp so that I can preview without a delay?

you should be monitoring (both headphones and monitors) from the M-audio.

When ASIO drivers are set properly the delay you get should be so small that it becomes virtually unnoticeable.

Be sure you run the wave profiler and choose ASIO and select the M-audio as the input and output for midi and audio.

You can even use a cheap adapter to convert the 1/4 to 1/8 on teh m-audio and use some inexpensive headphones.

I have a $30 pair of Yamaha cans I use and I have used some $15 a pair ear buds too.

Straight from the M-audio, you should not have a delay. It sounds like you are using 2 sound cards.... the M-audio for input but you are relying on the computer's sound card through USB  for monitoring. You do not want to do that.....

GH, I realise all that. The problem is, I am retired. My wife controls the pocket book, and I can't convince her it's required. She just spent around 1000 dollars upgrading my computer itself, which came with the USB headset. In her mind, that's all I need.

Let me guess.....  your wife's name is Serena.... and she rules?
3 suggestions: Go back to work, dump the wife, or just go buy the headphones you want and deal with it later. If those aren't viable options.....  PM me your address and I'll send you a decent used pair I have lying around.

    lol

Don't worry about it. I'll get a pair sooner or later. Just gotta nag a bit. As for work, it's kind of hard post-stroke when you can't do things like you used to. Just had to add that so I didn't come off souding lame. I'm old and retired.

In the meantime, I found the latency slider and have it set to 15ms. Anything less and I get clicks. So it'll work for the time being. I mean hey...that's less than the 24ms delay I get when playing the GR-300.

    =)
