Recording SI Drums on Creator 6

Hello, thanks for helping me.  I'm running Music Creator 6 on Windows 7 with a Line 6 UX1 usb interface and an Akai MPK mini keyboard.  Lots of cheap thrills and everything seems to work just fine.  One problem:  I really want to use the SI drums in a recording.  I have followed the video and written instructions for the Sound Center Controls and attempted to use the same method to record the SI drums.  No luck.  I can hear them just fine, and they show up on the VU, but I can't get any of the canned drum patterns to record on the track.  Do you have any suggestions on how I should arm the track or set the input/output?  I'm doing something wrong.  Thank you.

Are you dragging the patterns into the tracks?

I have played around with them to see how they work, but I choose to use a totally different way to record my drums.

I believe you have to build the drum track by dragging the patterns from the library location into the tracks. You can then edit, expand them, add others, and do all sorts of things with them...once they are in the tracks.

You should see the pattern with it's note in the track.

this is a video that shows how to drag clips and loops into the tracks>>> http://www.cakewalk.com/CakeTV/Music-Creator.aspx

pay close attention since it does show how to do what you want.  NOTE: these are audio loops..... I'll see if I can find a SI drums midi video for you.

this should start running part 4..... also watch the other videos here.

    Hope this helps.

that might be zackly what you're looking.  If not...simply search studio instruments drums on youtube.... there are a bunch of Cakewalk sponsored videos there on every aspect of Cake products by the bakers at Cake.

Thank you Guitarhacker.  Just dragging it works.  Thanks.

This was one of the rare instances whereby I watched too many videos and read too much instruction for my own good.  I just never simply dragged the pattern.

I just walked into the house, took your advice from your first sentence, and it works like a charm.  Thanks for this.

I must say that this is an incredible setup for me.  I've been away from DAW since 2004, concentrating on my guitar playing, and it's amazing what I can get out of a very inexpensive setup.  Add a Shure mic and an electric guitar and bass to my aforementioned OP gear and I can't believe the power of MC6.  Great product.

Thanks for taking the time to help me.

    Have a great week.

This was a huge help for me.  When I start a project I can't lay anything down to a metronome click track.  I like to have drums, and that's the part of song creation that is like work for me.  With the SI Drums feature I can now just drag and drop a suitable pattern from the get-go, add my audio tracks, spice it up with some midi effects (the female "ahhs" are kind'a cool), and then go back to the drums last to get them right.  I'm impressed with this software so far.

That particular combination of letters gets hammered here by the PC filter. It's comical, really, because you have to think the word to make sure you don't type it.
On your original subject, you might also like Session Drummer2. It is a cheap download ($9.99), and functions much like Studio Instruments Drums. But you can drag several variations on a given pattern into your song to add more s-p-i-c-e.
And the drum sounds themselves have a little more depth.

something about the covered letters being a racial slur from days past.   ...we  did a thread on this topic in the coffee house a few months back and tried out a lot of words.....

On the timing tracks....or metronome.... I too have never really liked the metronome, and have preferred to either build my own drum tracks or use a program like Jamstix... which I used for a long time before finding other, better, faster, simpler ways to do drums.

Dragging in a drum track as about as fast and simple as it gets.
