After-market coolers.

After doing a bit of research on coolers based on price/performance and noise levels for my i7 2600k on an ASUS H67 based board I've come to the conclusion that one of the Zalman CNPS10x based solutions are a good bet. The stock unit doesn't seem to do much except make a noise like an off road quad bike when the CPU is under any load.

Bearing in mind using a H67 chipset isn't going to allow me to OC to any significant degree the noise level vs price is probably the deciding factor here between the Extreme, Quiet and Performa versions.

Anybody here using one of these, any caveats, plus points to swing the decision one way or the other between these 3?  Or should I be looking at another solution completely?

Can't help you with your choice there Jon, but I know for a fact that Jim Roseberry has stated it's a good idea to always swap out the stock cooler.

One thing to be aware of is the physical size of the coolers you're considering. Some of them are massive and wouldn't fit into a rackmount case. Not so much an issue with a tower based pc, but it's always worth checking.

    Thanks Jonesy/Scott.

I'm not even going to argue the point if Scott is giving advice, I've found a Noctua NH-U9b SE2 for only £20 more than the Zalman one but has a dual fan setup rather than a single one.

I'll probably roll with that now.

    Cool. (pun intended... )
