Has anyone tried the Studio One Version 2 yet?

I'm just curious how it has worked for others, if any tried it.

My experience has been a bit dodgy due to CPU spikes with some VST's...

    I have studio one the cut down version which I got for 20 dollars over Namm. Look it's alright but it's really a glorified tape machine cum digital mixing console.

    I haven't really used it very much and so I am basing my opinion on first glances and the couple of times I have used it.

    It looks nice and is easy to use, the effects all though I haven't used them very much are serviceable.

    The feel of the program though is really cheap I like the multiple screens we have in Sonar where as in studio one we have one screen and the multi-dock and I don't like that.

    I really don't know what I can use it for I might get the full version so I get the extra effects which I hope I could use in Sonar. Apart from that Sonar is a much more complete program but that is just my opinion.

    What is really funny I use Reaper more mainly because of the varispeed, it's a pretty similar program to studio one in terms of looks and feel.

    I've been thinking of buying the "producer" license. It seems like Cakewalk has left the door wide open for my annual budget to slip into someone else's hands.

    I had considered buying some Presonus hardware and a S1-2 upgrade bundle last fall and was stymied by the fact that I learned that Presonus has no appreciation for low latency round trip monitoring.

    Furthermore the Presonus web representatives actually seem inclined to debate with customers about the merits of low latency round trip on the Presonus forums. The idea that a Company representative would argue rather than observe their customers' preferences was a complete turn-off.

    I may still consider the software, as it is made by a different team than the hardware. I have dismissed the hardware as "not an option" after observing how the Presonus representatives and tech support conduct themselves when this issue of low round trip latency comes up on the Presonus forums.

    Just my 2 cents.

    I've been using Studio One Pro v2.0.4 x86 on Win7 x64 & all my vst's/ vsti's seem to work fine. Which ones are spiking for you?
    I love that it's gapless & mainly use for writing & getting ideas down quickly. I can insert many instances of  GuitarRig, Amplitude, Kontakt & play in real time without drop outs.
    I still use X1 for most midi, arranging & mixing chores though.

    I have Studio One 2. This is exactly the way I feel.

    It talks about the good and the bad of the product. I find it really great for mastering and making a cd, great layout design for burning whole cd projects.

    I've got it, and must say I use it more than Sonar these days. The work flow just suits me better. (not saying it is better - I'm just saying it suits me better - until I change my mind again, LOL).

    @trimph1: The only time I got any CPU spikes was when I tried to bridge some plugs using jBridge. There are several complaints of this on their forums. Not sure if that was your problem, just pointing it out. Some people simply cannot get jBridge to play nice with Studio One - others have no problems. I eventually found a solution that worked for me, and although not ideal - it works!

    Don't fix it in the mix ... Fix it in the take!

    mmmmm...that just might be it....there are some VST's that I have, namely AT3.7 that seem to  cause spiking but I do have some jbridge issues....
