ALL Audio Gone
Hello, all.. Last night I inadvertently shut down My Kurzweil K2600 and Steinberg MR816x BEFORE closing a project in Sonar. This AM Midi plays fine but no audio any where, in any song, old or new. At first I had meters in Sonar but no sound. The Mr816 looks normal in its mixer, and shows input in its meters. Mic's are normal at the headphone outs...(all I have). Omnisphere is silent. I was able to record audio, according to the track waveform, but couldn't hear it play back. I can hear the Kurzweils' own audio thru the MR as usual. I shut down in the same ...wrong...sequence as last night in order to see the" MR816 is not available screen(s"), and now I don't have any meters at all in Sonar. This system has been absolutely rock-solid with one blue screen in the ~1 year I've had it. I will start by re-installing the MR816 drivers tomorrow. My Global and Project options are as I remember them as being. I am on 8.3.5.1 with three drives..C:\ (System), D:\ (Audio), E:\ (Samples, Omnisphere). I need some of you old China hands to advise, and thanks in advance. Tony S All else is per my sig. Thanks

Tony, try the following: 1) Search your D drive for WAV files and check if any dates match with yesterday's date. 2) Open Sonar and see if it still points to your D drive for audio data. 3) Resign yourself to the fact that you may have to uninstall Sonar and reinstall. If you DO, take a screen shot of Sonar BEFORE you unistall, paste it to your desktop. When you reinstall you can set up Sonar the way you had it before (I speak from experience!) You may have screwed a Sonar configuration file with the incorrect shutdown sequence. Let's hope it's a real easy fix.

BluesMiester Thanks! I had done the things you recommended, and will recheck to be sure...but am afraid I'm scr---d. I never take the computer online other than for upgrades and dread all the hassles of down loading up dates. Thanks. Tony S

Tony, do you use PER PROJECT folders and do you have AUTOMATIC SAVE enabled?

Blues, Yes to "Per Project Audio Folders", No to Autosave. I'm a <Control-S> kinda guy. Sorry to take so long to respond...was tied up w/ other things....thanks again... I was hoping that you or somebody else would have some miracle cure, but am fed up. Now gotta read up on how to uninstall, etc. and go thru all the other reinstall cr-p. Not a big Cakewalk fanboi at the moment. But thanks...I appreciate your response. More follows. T

First I don't understand why you would have to un install and re install when all was working before. Turning off the Kurzweil will do zero to Sonar. And I can shut off one interface and turn on another mid session and the computer will make a USB alarm but Sonar seems oblivious. I then go to audio option and check and un-check the device I wish to use. Besides, it will have nothing to do with what happens to audio files anyway. They are saved as they are recorded and can only be erased by you or a computer failure. Are you sure they were there? If they did not playback then your outputs were not assigned to the interface. It's a good idea to use the most up to date drivers but it sounds like a simple set up issue to me.

This just in... I was/am now able to open songs from my D:\ Audio drive as I always keep the <Save Audio w/Project option enabled. Everything plays fine, audio, Kurz, Omnisphere. If I merely turn on Sonar and try to open from the list of recent songs/projects without leaving C:\ drive, then no soap. What I DO know is that the MR816x and Omnisphere and audio are working, therefore I have probably got a path situation yet to reset... My drivers are the latest, and the MR816 has been a superb interface.* I did find that my inputs on Channels 1,2,3,4 weren't set to the MR... I'm just burned out so I'll resume tomorrow. I appreciate your help, guys, and thanks again! Tony * As opposed to my un-lamented E-Mu 1616m& MOTU 828MkIII.
