Music Creator 6 no longer lists my microphone in the track in/out

OK, so I'm sure I hit some random button or something, but after recording six songs, suddenly now I can't get the tracks to show my USB microphone.

I went back through the setup, and my microphone is listed as the "recording" mic. But when I go to arm a track, it's not listed as an input option.

What did I do and how can I fix it? I've gone and gotten all frustrated.

Reno... USB mics are not the best for Cake products. They are quite problematic and we tend to recommend other better ways to record. Use of a USB interface is the best option with a dynamic or condensor mic that is NOT a USB mic is the best way.

    However....

It should show up in the audio devices available list. In preferences, look to see what is available there. Unplug the mic and then reconnect it if you need to. It should show up.

I do not recall a button that turns off the input sources the computer will see. You can choose other sources but still, all the available ones should be in that list.

Perhaps you did somehow de-select it.

We don't like the USB mics because they present to your computer as a soundcard. That means the computer sees and tries to use 2 sound cards. Since the cards each have an internal clock, AND, the clocks are not in sync with each other and can not be synced efficiently,  the playback of multiple tracks can often be all over the place. Tracks out of sync, speeding up, slowing down, etc.....  Using midi makes it even worse.

Check in the preferences and see what is in the list.

Ouch! I wish I would have come across this about USB mics before buying it. But it's worked well for a few weeks. Maybe it'll work well again.

Thanks. I'll go through the prefs again. I still can't figure out what I did.

That worked. It showed up on the Preferances list, but not in the audio project. So I deselected it from the preferances list and then reselected it and hit apply. The prohram blinked and then it showed up.

Well, now I know. Wish I had the perfect mic for it though. That would be better.

    Thanks again.

The mic is fine if you're recording a single track, like playing guitar and singing. The problems usually occur when recording multiple tracks; they tend to get more out of sync the more tracks you record.
What is the model of the USB mic? Some new ones have an audio interface incorporated into them so you can use it for both input and output. Those are okay (although I would get an audio interface and a couple regular mics , money permitting).

check my website for recommendations on mics, preamps and soundcards.  it also has a note that I do not recommend buying a USB mic.

Reno, more than likely you switched the USB port it was in.. and thats what caused the issue , tripped it up

using a USB mic is OK if you don't use a mic *ALL* the time and don't mind switching .... IF you have a decent ASIO based soundcard to match with it also.. I used both types of mic , usb and none usb.. and well carrying a soundcard around as well as the rest of my kit is a pain..

timing issues are brought in from a cheapo soundcard and latency issues from that normally.. remember the mic is  only half of the equation

if there was a standard where they did half duplex for USB mics then that'd be cool , so you could still use asio.. not tried if the mic is bettter in WASPI mode.
