New build using a Layla 3G PCI interface

I'm thinking of upgrading my DAW to an i7, Z68 board setup. My Layla 3G is PCI and I've read conflicting posts from some folks about low latency performance with older PCI interfaces on some newer motherboards. I wrote to Echo and their reply was that they have not tested the 3G on Z68 platform but that 'it should work ok'! Not extremely convincing!

So my question is, anyone out there using a PCI 3G with a recent (solid) build that could share any do's, dont's, preferences or recommendations?

Much much appreciated in advance.

We have clients using the Layla 3G with new SandyBridge i7 based DAWs.
Earlier on, motherboard choice was more critical... as "bridged" PCI slots sometimes caused a problem.

no point to a Z68 vs P67, so since we never validated it (z68) i cant say
however i have seen several people complaining about it not working..
    yet others saying it works.

it comes down to this. the ITE chipset (the bridge) can be made by several maunfacturers and therefore no straight
answer to the question. even with the same board manufacturer they could have used 1 on 1 board and another on a different board or even diferent ones on the same board.
so its still a crap shoot on P67/Z68/H67

easiest answer buy a new interface

Thanks Jim & Scott, really appreciate you guys chiming in here.

OK, so basically it could be hit or miss, depending on the ITE chipset manufacturer - is that right? I guess there's no way to tell (or is there) what chip you are getting or which ones work???

Jim are you saying that later revision boards have more of a chance of working?? Or is it still cross your fingers and hope for the best??

I dont have the money for a new interface at this point, having said that I need a solid system so maybe I wait - I dont know, it's getting confusing! If I was to speak to the finance minister (the wife) and update the interface, are there any issues with PCIe on newer boards, or should I look at firewire/usb. Or do PCI-PCIe adaptors work??

Again any help extremely appreciated, thanks.
