First impressions, I've only used it so far on a couple of projects where I have the UAD LA2A or 1176 comps already in place on sub-mixes. It was very easy to get this into the same ball-park as what was there and get pleasing comparable results. The attack phase can be set to be much faster than either of UAD plugs mentioned, insanely fast set at the shortest speed. One of the drawbacks I'd say of some of Bootsy's previous plug-ins is that I've had to ramp the gain up to get into the sweet spots of their operation and back down again after processing. This one has a -18dbfs switch to bring the signal path to a more convineint mixing level but there is also plenty of range on the input and output knobs here. So no criticisms there on this one. Not that it's a problem on the other ones either once you get used to bringing the signal path up to pretty much unity to get the best out of them. It's hard to to talk about the 'stateful saturation' and 'intermodulation' distortion handling that is going on as while as I said it was easy to get into the same ballpark as the UAD plugs quickly although there is a noticeable difference particularly when mixing compound material in a sub-mix where you can clearly hear the living, breathing algorithms doing their stuff as the prominence of different sounds alters during playback and is clearly different to the plug-ins I replaced for this outing although the compression characteristics I dialled in are pretty much worked like for like. That will take some getting used to and I don't want to get over-enthusiastic as I'm obviously still suffering from pink cloud syndrome from playing with a new toy. But doing my best to stay objective I'd say there is more of an alive, breathing characteristic happening to the sound due to the 'statefulness' as claimed in this plugs design concept. Will it be a goto? I think this is going to be more like a piece of analogue gear in that it is going to take awhile to get to know intimately because the 'statefulness' is most definitely a 'new' behaviour for me to take into consideration, but it certainly covers a wide range from gentle levelling to completely overdriven smack down. And like I said it didn't take me long to fit it into a couple already existing roles. All of Bootsy's plug's appeal to me because they are not strictly designed to emulate specific hardware, but they are designed with great dedication and care to work well in the digital domain. And this one does that for sure and is certain to get plenty of use in any ITB mixer's toolchest. And of course with all the VOS plug-ins it won't have cost you a penny.

bapu I mean. I can't but it, right? You can't 'but' it no, but he does take donations. Donating for freeware is a much nicer thing than paying 100 bucks for something that is worthless, no?

(or is there a Bouy tax added for that?) No, it means that there's likely plenty of unused $100 bargains among your current collection. Freeware you can choose to donate something if you enjoy the product. (This is a second consultation and incurs a chargeable fee, which of course is taxable.)

I threw ThrillseekerLA on a drum bus and played with it. It is definitely a leveling amp in the genre of a LA2a, but it is not an emulation as the article I link to below indicates. It was easily to use and it has a few presets that help you get in the ball park. The quick attack time is very nice, and it has a minimum release of 30ms which I find also helpful. As noted it is not a emulation of the LA2A in that it has some other features like the saturation and transformer on/off. The article says: " When using just the compressor engine alone for the very first time, it might appear rather dull compared to other devices and this is because of the absence of any HF hype caused by IM distortions. This is not a bug, its a feature. Instead, the saturation stage of ThrillseekerLA allows you to dial in additional content which is harmonically related in a controlled fashion. Depending on the ‘spectrum’ setting this not only adds some texture and grit to the audio but also allows to color the sound." See this link which helps explain some of the features: http://varietyofsound.wordpress.com/2012/03/03/thrillseekerla-getting-the-most-out-of-it/ I could not tell if the frequency spectrum slider did anything significant or not, but the saturation slider was nice and did seem to color the sound nicely. I am unsure if it will find a permanent place on a bus, but for tracking on a drum or bass bus, and for the price (free) it is welcomed in my tool kit. Again see the link for a helpful description of its features.
