MP3 Encoding
I have a workaround for this but... Don't you think those of us who have bought "Producer" should get the MP3 Encoder included??? Just a curiosity question to see how many others feel this way... I know with most of the TOP SHELF DAW software you get the encoder included "gratis" I mean everything is distributed now in MP3 format...and I think the Bakers (and the CEO) should realize that "as a producer, you SHOULD be producing MP3's.... AND, knowing that we all have a way of doing this WITHOUT paying them in the first place kinda makes the $19 fee a wee bit "stupid" Not that I'm opposed to the $19 fee....but, for me, that $19 is about 5 hrs pay after taxes and child support.... Just sayin'...LOL

I have used sonar since version 6 and just today I picked up the MP3 encoder. Personally I think it should be included. I know there are licensing issues and such but it is kind of crazy. Even the low end Sony software packages have mp3 encoding. I bucked it as long as I could so after 5-6 years I caved in!!!!

Then use the free LAME encoder. Works just as well and its free.

My gripe is that I had the MP3 encoder in previous versions but it disappeared during the X1 install. Anyone know if/how I can use that one? I was told I had to buy the $19 version but I'm not sure that's true... seems like a silly answer if I already owned it before! So, I've just been exporting stereo tracks and running them through the encoder in Audio Creator - even though it's less convenient than choosing MP3 from the export menu (like I used to do in my previous versions - I still have the old presets that were copied into X1!) it's no biggie but it's just the principle - I definitely have a thing against corporate greed these days, LOL!

I have been using sonar back when it was called plain Cakewalk and mp3 creation was part of the package (Cakewalk Pro Audio) and it has migrated with me through all the different versions. I think you are right that at least with Producer it should be included for those that don't have it. . Chris in Alaska http://soundcloud.com/dis..loution/wing-and-prayer

Try logging on to the store and check your product page. You should still be able to download it from a link there. I know about all the encoder options, etc... We all have our workaround.... It was just a statement saying...most major software packages include it... and Cakewalk should include it with at least the Producer package... and those of us who have gone the extra mile...with Expanded and with all the PC Modules etc... I just think it's a pretty lame (LOL) thing not to include it...when most others...even el cheapo software includes it....there are hundreds of free MP3 encoders... so, for them to charge for it is quite silly on their part...when they know that we all have a way to do it without paying their fee... One for the powers that be at Cakewalk....WAKE UP!!! Include it already (at least in Producer!!!)

You're preaching to the choir. We've heard it a million times, but since we are not Cakewalk, we have no say in it.

What irks me is: I purchased a mp3 encode a few years ago with my previous version. I upgraded computers, sonar, bfd, bla bla bla and I had to buy the mp3 encoder agan. I can see the purchase date of the previous one, but now method to reuse it. the old machine died. Feel like I am bleeding cash.

As long as you had the license code, you should not have had to buy it again. If you lost the code, that's your fault.

Tracey - if it shows the date in your account, that's proof you bought it. Just email Cake and ask for the .exe file. I've done it a couple of times over the last 9 years most recently last Fall when I replaced my MB and lost the file.

Contact Cakewalk support, and they may be able to resurrect your previously purchased MP3 encoder license information. I used to store completed project audio in I believe big WAV files. I would then run an external MP3 converter to generate an MP3 file from the WAV file. I have since splurged and bought the Cakewalk MP3 encoder, but either method works fine. My external MP3 converter was free - you can go to www.downloads.com (run by CNET magazine) and review and download free MP3 converters - there are a bunch of them. Please reply if you have any additional issues or questions on the above - Bob Bone
