Guitar amp, Cabinet, Stomp box emulation
Whilst the upgrade from Guitar Rig 4 LE to Guitar Rig 5 seems reasonable do you guys have any other or alternate suggestions. Currently I have a Saffire Pro 26/io as my interface into 32 bit XP on a Q6600 CPU

Amplitube 3 - when on sale, of course. Overloud TH1 or TH2 - when on sale, of course. Scuffham Amps - looks basic and is but sounds great (I do like the sound). AcmeBarGig - cheap and very cheerful. Line6 PodFarm - usable Line6 sound (marmite of the guitar plug-in world).

Bang for buck it's Scuffham hands down. I've got most and tend to use Amp3, Waves GTR and Scuffham. YMMV.

Wookie, you should check out the Amplitube 3 FREE version (which I also have) and you can buy whatever amps/cabs/pedals from their custom shop for quite cheap. That being said.....I own POD Farm 2.x Platinum from Line6 and that's my go to which has more stuff (amps/cabs/mics/FX pedals etc..) than you can shake a stick at. Possibly Demo each of the ones mentioned above and see what rocks your world!! :)

Thank you all for your input it is appreciated. I will check out the suggested software. Should I mention I do not like marmite at this point.

3rd vote for Scuffham here. There's lots of free stomp emulators out there if you need or like the combination. Scuffham has the foundation building blocks well covered.

I like Amplitube for tracking - I like the way it responds when I'm playing, better than the ones w/ impulse-based cabs in most cases. It feels a bit less "static". I finally managed to get my head around Guitar Rig 5, and I dig it, particularly w/ the new Control Room Pro which uses some of the same RedWirez impulses I was using. For effects, it's killer. I'm having as much fun fooling around w/ it as when I tried my first multi-effect units back in the 90s - only these are a hundred times better. I like Waves GTR - simple, light on CPU and it's hard to get a bad tone out of it. Great for overdriven yet smooth tones. POD Farm - I dig that one a whole lot. On it's own, I find it a bit darker, but add that bundled API or the Neve preamp/EQ models after the cab to tighten it up a bit, add an hi-shelf, and it really shines. It's less flexible than some others in terms of mics/mic placement, but still awesome. I've gotten some of the best tones I've recorded using amp sims w/ POD Farm. Scuffham I demo'ed and was very impressed w/. Quality over quantity. Affordable. I'll probably grab it sooner or later. Overall, they all have strengths and weaknesses, certain things they're better at. For example, Amplitube has my favorite Hiwatt model - that thing is simply amazing. By comparison, the one in Guitar Rig leaves me cold and the POD Farm one is good, but not as exciting. On the other hand, if I'm after a Marshall type of tone, Amplitube is my least favorite. POD Farms's the one which is most likely to make its way as is in a mix. But it's not as much fun to play w/ as Guitar Rig and not as lively as Amplitube. I also use RedWirez Mix2IR as a multi-impulse loader along w/ a collection of their cabinet impulses. Simply put, whichever amp sim I'm using, it's when I bypass the cab sim and use Mix2IR to create my own cabinet/room combination that I can really take it to the next level. It's what really makes a difference. As you can see, I'm quite an amp sim junkie. (Didn't mention it but I also use Logic's own Amp Designer for some lightly overdriven tones as well as a regular POD coupled w/ Mix2IR). If I were on PC, I'd likely grab AcmeBarGig's Head Case as well.
