Do these things really work?

Or are they just a glorified/repackaged standard noise gate? I'm like 20 years late on guitar technologies, except maybe for amp sims. ;)

I was wondering about this pedal too. Everyone that I have talked to loved it.
Does anyone know the difference between the decimator and the G-string decimator?
Besides the $140 price difference. lol

the thing with the DECIMATOR is, yes, it's a noise gate, but i had a Boss NS-1 right before i got the ISP, and a/b'd them, and the decimator was more transparent, and was easier to dial in (one knob)

i find a certain spot, with the gain stacked just so, that it just barely shuts everything off.....
at my highest gain settings....
and i only use it on the high gain stuff....


if i'm playing clean, and i have ANY hiss for any reason (usually it's power related) i can tweak the pedal to work with low gain.......

and, if i just decide to be nuts, and have everything on 11, i can crank that thing down and it's dead silent, when i turn it off, the rig is screaming......

the G string is a better version of it, but not worth the extra money to me.

 I try to share it with any other pedal the Fat Boost has nasty side effects.

I've tried the Decimator and Boss NS-1, and personally I prefer the NS-1, with the guitar going to the NS-1, noisy pedals in the NS-1's loop then from the NS-1 to dlay/reverb/amp.

By putting the pedals in the NS-1 loop (which only opens when the NS-1 gate opens) the NS-1 can be set to respond to the guitar signal so can be run with a lower threshold (=more sustain) than a gate at the end of the chain that has to be set with a threshold high enough to gate out fuzzes/distortions.

The only disadvantage with the NS-1 (in fact, any post-fx gate) is you can't use the woosh...woosh of background noise (while not playing) to set the modulation rate on fx between songs......

Neither gate makes any particularly noticeable difference to the guitar tone by the way - and the Boss will also act as a line buffer as well.
