do you want to go into the Red? Most of us don't wish to. A -12 to -6 dB level is more than enough. SONAR shouldn't be used for mucking around w/ the recording levels coming in - that is what your M-Audio and any external preamps are for. Except for softsynths, of course.
As far as the stereo issue - SONAR will "see" stereo coming in from the M-Audio - it is dependent upon how the drivers from M-Audio to SONAR are set up (Options>Audio etc.) The stereo/mono icon works for me so I've never paid it any nevermind. I'll look when I'm at my music computer.
