How ToChange Track Stereo to Mono

HI All

I have tried changing the track from stereo to mono via the icon in the pro channel on the left of the screen.

I can make it not be illuminated but when I record it still puts 2 channels on the record track.

Also,I can just about see the waveform when recording, yet my volume levels seem fine.
I can't make the meters go red but I don't know what to do,can anyone help please?

Thanks

Alan

    Alan,

do you want to go into the Red?  Most of us don't wish to.  A -12 to -6 dB level is more than enough.  SONAR shouldn't be used for mucking around w/ the recording levels coming in - that is what your M-Audio and any external preamps are for.  Except for softsynths, of course.

As far as the stereo issue - SONAR will "see" stereo coming in from the M-Audio - it is dependent upon how the drivers from M-Audio to SONAR are set up (Options>Audio etc.)  The stereo/mono icon works for me so I've never paid it any nevermind.  I'll look when I'm at my music computer.

    Thanks AT

I have now fixed the Stereo to Mono problem.

Now I need to get a bit more level,I think.
The track meters go about 3.4's of the way up to the top, I only said I can't get them into the red
because I used to be able to.

    My gear chain is

NOS56 into Profire 610 - Amplitube 3 in Sonar X1D - with an Echo plugin on the track, usually I use the
    Universal Audio Roland RE201.

    And that's it.

    Thanks

    Alan

SONAR has no control over the input signal. The input level is controlled with everything before it goes into sonar. So look at your signal chain and raise some things in the gain stage.

Its a balancing act when you havemore than one gain stage in your reording chain and there is no right or wrong levels, so just get the level to where you want and record.

does that card you use have volume control , say via the software panel , like other m-audio cards ?

you might find messing with that to get the desired level will help.. on my card it's next to the clock and you can adjust levels for the ins / outs and mess with the routing.

    Hi Guys

Problem now solved.I thought the volume level was low because the waveform on the recorded track was so
    small.
I have now found out how to increase the size of the waveform and all is fine now.

    Thanks for the replies.

Cool, Alan.  It is a long slog getting all the hardware and software to work right together, as well as figure it all out as you go.  Nothing like getting in there and getting your hands sonically dirty.
