Hi - great question.
Start X1, then cancel the Open Project dialog window (where you can open an existing project or start a new project etc...)
OK, at the top left of the Sonar X1 window (with no project open), now click on 'Edit', then click on 'Preferences'. This will open up a nicely put together window where there are lots of categorized options for a great many things, such as template locations, various other file locations, midi devices, recording and playback settings, and that sort of stuff.
If you look down the left side of the Preferences dialog box window, look under 'File' and click on where it says 'VST Settings'. This opens up in the right pane of the Preferences window - a set of data and settings under the heading of 'Manage VST effect and instrument plug-ins'.
Here you can make sure any library paths are present in the section labeled VST Scan Folders. This list of folders simply tells X1 about any paths to instrument libraries. Make sure all of your instrument library paths are included so that X1 can pick up your VST plugins.
As you also should be aware, within each of these VST instruments, you can internally specify any needed libraries of sounds, such as Akoustik Piano or Factory Sounds for Kontakt.
Soooo, bottom line is, fire up X1, insert one of your VST plugins, and if you specified the setting in the Insert Soft Synth Options window that tells it to open the Synth Property Page, then you should be able to review the soft synth's database paths to your sound libraries for the instruments.
Once you access them, by making sure the sound library paths are specified, you should test them out by loading up one of the sounds that reference one of these instruments, and see if you can load up the presets from these libraries.
This is harder to explain than it is to do - please give the above a shot and post a note with the status of your attempts to load up sounds from these libraries.
Good luck with it all - Bob Bone
