The Outputs labeled 1-10 on the back of the VS-700R and headphone amps

I called tech support the other day, but I still can't figure this out.  I also e-mailed and am awaiting a response.

Can I use these outputs in conjunction with a headphone amp (specifically the Furman HDS-6) so each band member recording simultaneously can use the HR-6 boxes to adjust levels?  I get lots of requests to do this, but it seems whatever levels I put in the Direct Mix tab on the computer is what they hear.  I can't send anything to the individual headphone amps.

What about for sending tracks for re-amping?  I've been using the sub-outs for this (going to a Radial X-Amp), but wanted to know how to use these outputs.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks.

I have the same Furman setup in my studio with several remote stations; really handy and the clients loved (note the past tense) the control that the system gave them in their headphone mix.  The bad news is that you can't achieve what you're looking for with the VS-700R alone.  Several of us on the forum complained about this in the past; I thought it was a little short-sighted on Cakewalk/Roland's part.  However, I understand that the new Roland Octa-Capture module merged with the VS-700R (or even stand-alone) will allow us to do what you are talking about (Cakewalk/Roland must have heard our complaints).  The bad news is that it is an additional $600 investment.  However, I recently purchased one just to make my Furman headphone monitoring setup useful again in the studio; plus, the extra inputs and features can't hurt.  I haven't installed the Octa-Capture yet, but I plan on doing so in the near future when things slow down a little.  I'm hoping this solves the problem.  I'll keep you posted if you like.

Sorry, I can't help you with your second question; haven't tried it.

The individual outputs can send out signal from SONAR, so you could setup headphone mixes from tracks within SONAR. However, you cannot rout inputs form the VS-700R directly to the individual 1-10 outputs.

Hi Seth...thanks for chimming in.  Yeah, as you stated, therein lies the problem when traking new parts with existing track, or just tracking new parts where some of the musicians want some control over the heaphone mix.  I know you were gracious enough to reply to some of us discussing this in the past (infact, you were the only one that eventually replied to our many inquiries); evidently, it was a hardware thing that could not be fixed via software changes.  I was under the impression from previous discussions on this subject that this issue has been somewhat addressed with the release of the Octa-Capture (i.e., there is some flexibility in controling heaphone mixes (up to 4) with both input and existing tracks).  If that's not the case, I may have a new Octa-Capture for sale.  I guess I'll know for sure in the near future.

By the way...the webinar was really informative; keep them coming.

    Swizzle,

Yes, you can rout inputs directly to outputs with the Octa-Capture. In fact, you can do four separate headphone submixes with that unit, and it has built-in reverb, too.

Thanks for all your help!  I will research looking into the Octa-Capture.  The guys at Sweetwater almost had me convinced that I needed to sell my VS-700R and get the RME UFX.  Hopefully this won't be necessary!
